College athletes need to sign contracts like the rest of professional sports

Signing contracts for payment from NIL that will lock them into a sports program that is associated with the NIL. This would solve most of the issues in college sports associated with the transfer portal.
Colleges would be able to trade players as long as their classes would match the new college.
Gone will be the days of “I don’t like the coach or I’m not getting enough playing time. This would also end opt outs for bowl games.

Just not long term ties to a team. They are year to year deals and obligations.

I think what he may be referring to is the model Josh pate laid out. And it's about the only fair way to do it.

When he poses the question do Saturdays in the fall feel any different to you (referring to the games), and his answer is no. My answer is yes, they do feel different to me.

They definitely feel different. The regular season was much better 25 years ago as a whole. The rivalries and traditions were still in place then. Now kids bouncing everywhere. I have not watched the playoffs since Clemson was last in it. The only bowl game I am watching this year is the Gator Bowl. Voting by choosing not to watch.

Don't care for trading players in college and don't think that should be a thing unless the powers commit to a football-only league with college no longer being a requirement. If they do that, then by all means copy the NFL and implement trade deadlines, free agency period, etc.

However, I do agree that we need something more to keep kids from being tampered with. Maybe it looks like schools paying other schools to accept the transfer? Kids paying an exit fee equal to a portion of the NIL offered?

I admit, I have no clue what the appropriate approach would be but something needs to be done.

Stick to delivering water because you have no idea what NIL is.

All P5 teams have X dollars to allocate, as needed. The “collectives” are being abused, and fans shouldn’t be able to buy players like it’s the 80’s with no rules. They can give to the school, and the allocation control needs to go to the schools. All players should get a minimum. The high performance guys get bigger allocations, and it all rolls up into a cap. Like the NFL. The players will be getting paid, so it’s now a professional league.

It will come to some form or fashion of your suggestion in the very near term I think.

Too much cash involved to not hold all parties accountable.
