Stoudt Starter
Sep 4, 2014, 2:07 PM
|
|
If Stoudt is the starter, why play Watson at all at Georgia? We didn't see Stoudt midway through the game when Boyd was running the show last year. I realize that the qb position was not the issue in the Georgia game. Why open the door to controversy? The position we had the issue at, no substitutions were made.

Because he's good enough to play and he needs real experience vs tough competition.

If one is better than the other, should that one play the entire game and give the best chance to win?

The coaches said weeks before the game that Watson would play. I don't see this imaginary door of which you speak.

Yea he played and did GREAT! Then he was benched!

I didn't get it then and I don't get it now. Just plain stupid for him to be benched after he sparked the team with a great play and score

That in itself is the problem, if CS is the starter. No mention of DW til necassery. Shouldn't have seen DW til second half of SC State game when we are up by 28.

moot point. You play him until he fails then you put Stoudt back in if you want to. He looked just too brilliant to take out. We looked flat before he came in. Who knows he could have made us play at a higher level just because he was playing at a higher level. He could scramble and wear the GA defense out. Just a lot more options with DW in the game

there's a time and place to "get experience".......

coaches just don't experimentally throw a true freshman to the wolves in Athens down by 7.....................I think that move alone whether they admit it or not was the coaches saying.........they are "equal at best"
and if they're "equal" you play watson if watson's better you play watson if stoudt's better you don't put in our "2nd stringer" in athens down by 7.
I think the coaches know who's better, but don't want to hurt feelings.
that being said the QB wasn't the reason we lost
we lost b/c we our "#1 & #2" RBs aren't very good........AND.........our Oline has issues, and that's more of a reason to play the more athletic QB

Our OL and #1 and #2 RB aren't very good? We only called one pass play inside the redzone all night and it was incomplete but we still scored both times we got there. Not saying they played great but you cannot take all the blame off of one guy and put it all on someone else.

I don't think we really know who #1 or #2 is at several positions.

The QB change was not a traditional substitution. I think it was more of a combo package and part of the plan.

What controversy?

Cole is the starter.
Watson is the back-up.
There is no controversy except for the one you're trying to create in your own mind.

watson is back-up = cole is starter = cole is better = then why in the h3!! was he not in the game down by 7 on the road??????
I would like that question answered.
If there's "no controversy" then the coaches shouldn't make a controversy by putting in your back up in that situation.

A. watson is equal OR BETTER than stoudt
or
B. the coaches are stupid for putting in a true freshman QB down by 7 in Athens that is admittedly by the coaches not good enough to be the starter.
any coach in america would want your BEST QB in the game in that situation.

With the collapse of our offensive line in the second half, it was difficult to evaluate any QB or RB.

Watson seems to have the confidence of a Senior. Looks

like he wasn't bothered by the GA crowd. Says he wasn't nervous or scared at all. I am sure he has lost a game or 2 in high school. He reminds me of Winston --the good part of Winston that is. He could have lit GA up and been a game changer for the second half. Instead a hot hand was cooled off on the bench. I bet that is what peod our D in the 2nd half

If Watson's TD pass had been dropped, we would not be singing his praises.

Cole was effectively 1 for 4 on our first TD drive. I wouldn't call that hot.
Without Scott's excellent catch on a under thrown ball on third down we only score 14 in Athens.
