Objectively, I fail to see what is so frightening about this. The author even discusses how this wouldn’t really be practical in the US…maybe some day…but no time soon for sure. But at whatever point it does become practical, I would hope most would welcome an improved transportation infrastructure between and within large metro areas…whatever the justification. I wonder if you/others might be more supportive of initiatives to create a better and more efficient transportation infrastructure in the US if it wasn’t wrapped up in discussions about climate change.
When I had discussions about infrastructure improvements with people 30+ years ago, I rarely ran into someone who didn’t support more access to rail service between (and within) major metro areas. Now it seems that because these improvements also happen to overlap with climate initiatives, a large number of folks are suddenly against common sense solutions that help reduce pollution and provide alternatives to high-priced air travel…
