Clemson's Commit Rule

I saw where Demarre Kitt was on a roll last night in twitter and retweeted some coot fan saying that the rule about not visiting other schools after you commit is dumb. I think it's simple when you think about it in other real world ways.
So you're dating a girl and she's really all you've ever wanted. You decide it's time to propose. You want to lock this down. After you propose and she says yes things are great! But a couple months later you keep getting messages from other girls wanting to spend some time with you. You go to your fiancée and say, "Hey babe. I know I said I was in this for the long haul and I'm absolutely committed to you, but I just want to go on a few more dates with some other girls just to be sure you're the one."
How do you think that would go over?
Don't commit until you're ready and when you do, shut it down. It's that simple. (I don't think I'm way off base here. Anyone else agree?)

I agree with the 'don't commit til ready' statement, however, keep in mind that some of these kids are 15/16 year olds and can be talked into the wrong decision with pressure. I really hope most coaches can tell this and won't push for a not ready commit.

I completely understand that. Which is why the coaches tell them not to commit until they are absolutely sure.

Poor guy. He's the one who chose to leave for what I can only assume was cowardice of competition for his position.

Yep, its fine if you don't want to commit until NSD, but

once you do, then do it fully. The uncomfortable issue here is that a coach isn't held to to the same standard. Theu can leave for another school without sitting out for a year.

The difference being that that's a professional career as opposed to an amateur/academic position. I don't know that I've understood the sit out a year thing. I'm sure there is a logical reason behind it but I don't know.
