Clemson QB's under center.

We all remember DW4 taking a shotgun snap from the 1 vs FSU his freshman year and it costing us the game, obviously DJ from the end zone this season, and a handful of other incidents over the years. Urban Meyer had an interesting quote about it on our end, talking about Trevor: "And the quarterback sneak, he's not quite comfortable with that yet. We've been practicing that. I know that might sound silly, but when you've never done it, it's something that we need to continue to make that, so you can make that call in that critical situation," Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer said on Sunday.
When it has literally cost us games and almost cost us games over a 6+ year period, why aren't we working on it, adding it to our playbook, it's literally the easiest thing a QB can do, and if they cannot, why not teach it. Tom Brady has scored 50% of his career TDs on the QB sneak, he's mastered it, perfected it--why isn't it a fundamental, a staple to any offense... very odd. Just thought Urbs comments were pretty telling and also maddening, but I guess "it's just not who we are".

Given your reasonability I will assume you are not a CU grad….only a fan.
1) TL16 said he was comfortable under center in a different presser the same day as Urban
2) the formation is not important meaning under center or shotgun unless the OL wins the LOS battle
3) if your OL is getting pushed in to the backfield you will not score a TD regardless
4) over the last 10 years we have an excellent TD percentage from the shotgun at the goal line proving your logic is flawed

I heard TL say that, but there is still something to it, TL had probably some of the better OL's Clemson has had in the last 20 years and we still didn't do it. It's about overloading one side, the QB walks up and sees where the nose guard is lined up, you tap the center on the butt cheek of the side you want to dive towards. It's the easiest play in all of football and most effective no matter OL play... Please enlighten me the exact %, b/c I know we have lost games BECASUE we were unable to run it.
When you are on the 1/2 inch yard line, the formation does matter. Gaining 1/2 inch vs 5 yards and 1/2 inch, those are huge differences. Based on your reasonability I can tell you never played football and are simply a fan.

I remember 1 distinct time it cost us. The Pitt game and we put in the jumbo package on their 35 and didn't make it. Do exactly what you're saying and get the push from behind. Old style rugby scrum. Simple really.

Please tell us which games lost because of a goal line formation and why you think if the OL can’t win the LOS in the shotgun why you think they could win the LOS under center? BTW the shotgun gives the RB a running start plus a better opportunity to see a hole vs. a quick hitter to a certain spot which may not be open

FSU game Deshauns freshman year. Snapped over his head and ended up missing a FG.
The leverage, push and frankly the time it takes to develop is the biggest thing, in leas than one second the ball is snapped and you dive and push… it takes 1 second just to get the ball from the center back 5 yards to the QB out of shotgun. That’s why you see teams with less size and talent run option offenses, the quality of the oline doesn’t matter when you execute a QB sneak… like Always just said, rugby style pile push.

This is specifically about QB sneaks, not the running game, I agree with you on the RB, not the QB though sneak though.

Ok, I’m a grad and an ME and played the sport. I can assure you that I am above average intellectually in this group (not very bold)… One of my best friends is a well known All America and all pro offensive lineman from Clemson. The QB sneak is a play that every team should be able to execute. The argument that our OL can’t blow people off is not valid - the idea is that the OL simply engages their man and the QB finds a hole - as pointed out earlier, watch Brady. It’s inconceivable that we don’t work on that - but of course we can’t adjust at halftime either. At the very least, the generational talent shouldn’t go to the NFL without that capability. There are no NFL teams that don’t take snaps under center - it’s football isn’t it? You jerks need to stop questioning others intelligence and loyalty just because some see that the emperor has no clothes. CU still has RPA and elem Ed majors, so being a grad doesn’t make one highly intelligent. Also, the majority of the fans on Sat are not grads - so what? Social media has turned your heads to sawdust…

Before I comment, I am a Clemson Grad, Played Center in HS, and was an equipment manager at clemson for 4 years. I live 20 miles from where Trevor played hs football. Never saw him take a snap under center in HS either. So am sure DJ ran the spread in HS too. It seems simple but if you aren't used to putting yourhands under a center's butt and taking the snap it is easy to fumble. Also, remember the center has always made the snap back to the QB in the spread. It is an entirely different motion to snap to a qb in spread vs under center. Not as easy a change as you think. The game we lost with Deshawn was a bad snap, nothing to do with the play call. Happens in the pros too. Simply put, if the game is on the line, worst thing you can do is put the center and qb in a position they aren't comfortable with. If you always run qb under center you sure wouldn't want to all of a sudden put them in a spread unless you brought in your special teams snapper. It's not a s simple as it looks.

I agree on all points, my point was why don’t we practice it to where it’s not an issue, it’s a must have staple of short yardage situations. It just blows my mind it isn’t.

through his progressions now, just put him under Center and cost him another half second.
If you’re simply saying we ought to be able to line up tight and wedge out a yard occasionally then I totally agree.
But if you’re suggesting that Clemson should incorporate this into the offense instead of the shotgun, then I think you’re way off base.

No, just to gain 1 yard, Jeesh no as a regular part of our offense… Goal line, 4th and short only type situations we should have that as an option.

What does not being a CU grad have to do with the subject ? Some of you are too obsessed with that.

I'm sure TE has several of these T-Net Coaches on speed dial. Now, if he calls one of these Coaches for advice I wonder if a play call can be given to TE in 5-8 seconds. More importantly will the play be functional.
