Really? When did Dabo say he was anti transfer portal? That label that we’ve acquired is actively killing our recruiting and will hamper us for years to come.
Even if he comes out and waves the banner for transfers he will always be recruited against using this moniker that he’s against you if you transfer in.
It’s not good that they keep pumping this on these shows. Talked to a guy at a restaurant last night who was not a Clemson fan but saw my hat and that was the first thing he talked about was our need to use the portal. That’s who we are now. Our identity is anti transfer portal i guess.

Exactly. Dabos actions have said he is anti transfer portal. Actions speak much LOUDER than words. If he wants the narrative to change he will have to show it. Until then, he is obviously anti transfer portal.

When Dabo speaks with a recruit he and that recruit are trying one another. Anyone who speaks with Dabo figures out real quick what Clemson is all about. If they don't want that then we don't want them.
IDK why you people want out team filled with the trash rather than the cream of the crop. When did winning at all cost become a value of Clemson?

No one has said win at all costs. Yes a good percentage of portal players are just mercenaries or looking for a paycheck. Find the good ones and recruit them to fill holes and use NIL to keep the ones we recruit out of High-school. We don't need to fill a roster as FSU and Colorado has done. We will not maintain a best is the standard and winning tradition if one, we don't go get top notch coaches,and two. use the same tools all other teams are using.

Last I checked the commots were getting are not"cream of the crop." Just because they commit to Clemson doesn't make them elite or future pro-caliber players. I don't like the professionalization of college sports, but until Dabo actual uses the portal this argument will continue to be used against us.

Do you think recruits watch espn? Do you think HS coaches watch ESPN? This is a tik tok generation whether you or I like it or not . When every talking head reads from the same ###### then it becomes the rule. Especially when none of the others correct him. So it really doesn’t matter if I like ESPN or not. It’s the main source of info for college football unfortunately and they are not doing us any favors. And our recruiting taking this signing day seems to reflect it.

should really help with kids knowing we're not just going to pick up a portal guy to take their spot. I honestly think that is what Dabo was banking on when he took this stance. Hasn't worked out like that at all though.

Out that you'd think staying out of the portal would help with high school recruits. It's really the only logical explanation I can come up with for Dabo thinking he can keep a competitive roster while everyone else takes transfers. I said in the post it hasn't worked out with the recruiting aspect.

What killed our recruiting was the astonishingly bad coaching and performance against Louisville at HOME. We were trending upward until then. Finebaum, of all people, was praising us. UNTIL THEN. Losing to USC at HOME was the other hit. But the Louisville loss was the killer.

It’s perfectly fine to say he prefers building through his program but to say he’s against it puts us in a negative light. Semantics I know but they are not flushing out the full story they are reducing us down to a narrow minded program and it’s just who we are now. I guess my point is, get used to it.

I will say he is not against the portal but he is against a bidding war for a guy that may or may not last a year.
I get both sides. Only way to utilize and not go against pushing kids out is to undersign high school kids and leave 5-10 vacancies every season.
Ga. on the other hand seems to take 3 good ones at a given position and decide on who they want to keep. Ga.’s option like it or hate will keep them more competitive than Dabo’s method, even though he does feel like he is doing the right thing for the kids.

Been inundated with NIL and transfer portal talk while playing in high school. So when they hear oh this school hates the idea then in my opinion they probably mark us off the list. So the future Sammy Watkins, Ci Spillers, Deshaun Watson Amy not even look this way bc they are being catered to elsewhere. And the kids that hear oh at Clemson they guarantee me a spot for 4 years… those are not dynamic players that have that attitude. The DW4’s of the world aren’t worried about playing time bc they know they’ll have that regardless. So I think we are out of the running for special players.
The unfortunate part is 1% of these kids will play in the NFL so once they hit the real world they are gonna get real depressed that the whole world doesn’t revolve around them.

very selectively. So, what some talking head spews forth on TV will be proven wrong.
Secondly, many of the programs now using the portal heavily will, no doubt, find it difficult to continue successfully, meaning, many one-hit-wonders, rising and falling into typical obscurity.
Thirdly, mark these words: our staff's attitude about the NIL and rewarding athletes for performance is exactly what should have been adopted by all programs, a fact that many will realize soon enough, as the NIL wars turn nuclear...which they will.
I've made no secret of my despising both, but I am a realist. What both require IMO is high circumspection, which is not practiced but by a few now. Therefore, I fully expect a major, wholesale revision of both, as the have-nots...the greatest portion...enter warfare against the haves, which will precipitate Congressional involvement and action. There are too many members of Congress allied with the have-nots for that scenario not to arise.
And guess what? In the long run, a whole lot of people are going to be saying, "Dabo had it right all along!"

I sure hope so. Currently taking our lumps for it though.
Knowing Dabo even when he was a WR coach he just has never been a guy that comes across as being ok with losing. I struggle with the thought he would just slowly kill what he has built. Makes no sense.

We are the anti-portal program. That’s true no matter the reasons. And that narrative will be repeated over and over by the media. I’m sure it will affect recruiting more and more as it gets spun as we are against players getting a piece of the revenue. Folks getting on TNet to call these media guys out for speaking on it will have no effect on this.

We are and have never been against the payment of players. Hell they get paid now. Shipley was making over 300,000 when he left. We pay what’s on the roster, but do not get into a pissing contest in bidding on the next great thing.

Clemson is the only college football team, outside of the Service Academies, that do not have a transfer player in the starting role this year. It’s semantics whether you would say Dabo is anti-portal, but the facts are clearly obvious.

This is similar to Dabo’s previous comments about paying players etc… a lot of people try to parse everything Dabo says and claim that “ well askually…Dabo has secretly embraced NIL( for recruiting)/Portal in this hyper nuanced way! You just don’t get it”
