Unless he decides to go on his own. Clemson is in no position to cover a $60 million buyout. Personally I think he has earned the right time stay as long as he wants with 2 Patty's in his pocket despite the failures of the last few years.
We need to hope that he embraces the new ways of the college football world and turns things around. There is no excuse after this season. He has always been able to hold out hope with strong finishes, but that isn't happening this year. Our guys on the roster don't have what it takes. We have to look to the portal.
I think he will change things up after this year. He understands business and the life-cycle that his is currently in.

If he is utterly incapable of keeping this program from completing the nosedive into obscurity, HE NEEDS TO GO. And it would be in his interest to go before we get to that point. If his career ends up being a bell-curve from mediocrity to the top and back down to mediocrity, it takes a lot away from his legacy. He has the $multi-millions already in the bank; that's not a factor for him.

Honestly, if any SEC team had this type of year after the past 5 years, would the head coach get a 6th year?
If you say Yes, then I need a real life example. The direction of the program is evident by its trajectory. The only question is, “How many years does 2 national championships in a different era of CFB buy a coach that is clearly on a downward spiral?”
There’s no other question to answer but that one

My point exactly, Did he ever recover the program despite Texas keeping him on for all 5 of those years? No it only got worse so you’re making my point for me unless you agree it’s gonna be just as bad with us as it was with Texas & Mack Brown

Id say he should get at least 3 years if its a steady decline to back to back to back loosing seasons. He has 6 more years and his buy out right now is not feasible. If things continue headed south then by year 3 the program should change leadership. I believe Dabo will figure it out again. Talent, coaching, f@f benefits, Portal, HS recruiting, etc. etc. Dabo knows he is at a cross road and knows its now or never and some of his principles are going to have to change. He want continue to be a loosing program because he is tieing his own hands. He was great when the rules of the game were his strengths. Dabo talks about growing and I am looking forward to the evolution of Coach Dabo Swinney. Go Tigers!!

Completely different … Bowden was like 80 and stuck around way too long and it was evident the recruiting and teams were failing bc of his age. He adapted to the game and wasn’t bad and won at an older age as well. Dabo literally is the only person to blame for what has happened… I will say the nil and portal era didn’t help at all and may not have been as severe of a drop off without those , but he’s made some absolutely terrible hires that are showing now. Tom Allen can’t fix this overnight, the defense is slow, the LBs are terrible in coverage and gap discipline. The corners show flashes but too many busted assignments. The d line is just severely over hyped. He hired Luke.. these are not his guys and honestly after today I just think we need 10 brand new lineman in the portal they just aren’t good unfortunately… sucks bc the wr room is really talented and they show that but you have to be able to run it and we can’t get a yard with two plays it’s pathetic , the line is soft as iv ever seen. CV actually played pretty well today when they let him loose. Basically what I’m saying is there needs to be a big time change on the staff but those changes will take a couple years it’s not overnight and that’s bc the last 5 years have set us back so far .

I agree with OP. To many people have forgotten what Dabo has done for Clemson University and Clemson Athletics.
Don’t act like boneheaded coot fans and pull another Ken Hatfield. Show some Class. Clemson fans are always talking about how special we are, start acting like it.
Dang it start acting like it Clemson instead of acting like coot fans 🐅🐅🐅🐅🐅🐅🐅🐅🐅 🐅🐅.

Gave him his big shot…
Compensated him with a crazy contract after winning…
Invested beyond what we ever did before to support the program…
But it doesn’t feel like a mutually beneficial relationship anymore when he’s now winning.

I do remember what he did for Clemson but he’s clearly not the man to lead Clemson going forward in this new era of CFB.
Look, I believed in Dabo’s way, defended him relentlessly that focusing on retention and recruiting was the best way to navigate the era of the portal but there’s literally nothing left for me to defend. Even if I was drunk on the kool-aid, what in the past 5 years could I possibly point to to show that we’re progressing successfully? A fall back ACC Game that we got lucky at the end bc our defense gave up our lead?
There’s nothing to defend anymore and if he is the man next year to lead us, then I already have zero faith because as much as I am a fan, history & trajectory has just shown me that we will only slide more. #### even our former players like Shaq Lawson knows we don’t have the same type of product on the field so it’s not just us fans

And neither is this program. As long as all you folks understand that, my wife and I have starred traveling more in the fall. We have also discontinued our season football tickets. My fayher-n-law has stopped hos football yearly contribution as of 3 weeks ago. Its only a matter of time people. University is not listening, so what is started as lower to mid level contribution cuts will grow. The administration will listen, so we will begin the process of operation Hatfield!!

he doesnt need the 'poooortal' as much as aggressive, knowledgeable recruiting. That's how you build a roster that you can rely on rather than a one and done free agent or a pine rider at whozit juco. they do ALSO need to feel that they can be developed if they possess big league level talent.

If that's the case then why the #### woud our administration write a check they can't cash? That makes no sense they would do that with a buyout. Same stupidity as signing over our TV rights for 20 years until 2036 to that clown John Swofford. At least we got out of that one somewhat.

a couple bad seasons. Some folks on here really are short sighted & unrealistic. We are the defending ACC Champions & went to the playoffs last year. Getting rid of Dabo now would be crazy. Hopefully, he’s seen what needs to change and makes the needed changes. If things aren’t drastically better in 2027 (yes 2027), then maybe a change is needed. But not now. Lighten up and just hope this team makes & wins a bowl game. Those that believe we should win all the time, every year are just delusional. I’ve said it before and i’ll say it again, when CDS took the head coaching job, no one thought he would win a natty, let alone two. Have a little faith and give the guy a chance to right the ship. Be thankful you’re not a chicken or a tarhole fan.
