However, some changes to structure and staffing on the baseball team needs to be examined seriously.
Of the good hitting ACC teams, UNC, Fla State, Ga Tech, NCSU all have a designated hitting coach. All these teams were better hitting teams than we were this year. Isn't it a safe conclusion that we need a hitting coach? Schnabel is not primarily listed as a hitting coach. After this year's performance we need a coach dedicated to teaching hitting philosophy and technique. There was a decent amount of commentary over the weekend on Ciufo's changing his batting style. He did improve toward the end of the season, whereas players such as Priest and Paino dropped off.
Phil Pohl, director of scouting and player personnel: After seeing some players on the USC upstate team, that we apparently didn't take a look at out of high school, Amp Lee in particular, can Mr. Pohl be doing a good job? Maybe he could drop the h from his last name, get into our newly minted VET School and become a veterinarian. Dr. Pol seems to be doing ok.
Do we have a recruiting coordinator? Don't we need one?
Even after a playoff appearance, Dabo knew we needed a D-coordinator change and made it, and by all initial reviews a good one.
EB needs to look at some deficiencies and make some changes.

Clemson had two lingering issues pretty much all season...

A deep pitching rotation and largely abysmal hitting (only two players in the starting lineup finished the season with a batting average above .300).

So if we just hit better, pitch better, and field better we're set?

I couldn't understand why everyone else couldn't see that, so I was compelled to post my keen observations. You're welcome.

We had one bonafied starting pitcher, Knack. Bell was developing but still has some maturing to do. After that our starters were undependable. I'm not sure Titsworth can or will be the guy. Bailey is a definite no. I know we have some young guys who were injured that have potential.
Hitting was the other story. Can and Listi, both gone now were our only consistent hitters. Creighton and Wentworth both flashed at times. Purify can be a good hitter but takes too many good pitches and swings at too many bad ones. Jarrell needs to learn to hit with two strikes and he can be solid. Paino and Priest became strikeout machines by the end of the season.
The missing component is a solid hitting coach that can help these guys become reliable situational hitters. They don't seem to have a plan in place when they go to the plate.

I think Bailey was good until he collided with Dillard against FSU. Before that, he had been pretty good in starts and in relief, but after that, he was awful

The mark of good coach is being able to identify your own weaknesses and attack them until they become a strength. Part of that is recognizing where you need more help - including assistant coaches, recruiting changes, etc. We've got to go get some better hitters. We've got to have better coaching of both those hitters and the ones we've got. We've got to add some depth at pitching. Nobody should be talking about firing Bakich at this point... but if he doesn't show that he can adjust after this year, then that will be a talking point a year or two from now when his real evaluation should come.
