Cheney may have found a way out for USA: the 14th Amendment

Jan 7, 2022, 6:51 PM

It was a Civil War-era amendment passed to prevent Confederates from ever again holding office.

This author thinks Liz intends to hit Trump with it. And I suspect Mitch McConnell would stand with her on this.

If she pulls this off, that basically seals it...she's our next president.

Hope it works…either way, I hope she runs. Would make Pubs pick a side and they couldn’t claim she isn’t conservative enough…we would finally find out who are the real conservatives and who is just worshiping at the alter of Trump.

They already consider her a traitor.

This is the great enthusiasm effect vs swing votes debate. She'd alienate trump loyalists but they'd likely sit out or vote 3rd party, not vote Democrat. I still doubt a non trumpet can win the gop nomination but that's a long ways away.

Define real conservative and explain how Lizzie falls in that category.

Hint: GOP does not equal “real conservative”

Well, her voting record, for one. She's got some of the highest scores of any Republican in Congress with a 96% score with Heritage Action...four spots ahead of Tom Cotton, for instance.

https://heritageaction.com/scorecard/members

She's rated somewhat lower - 78% - by American Conservative Union but she's still the 74th most-conservative member out of 435 members of the House.

Her voting record is extremely conservative. See how she compares to, say, Elise Stefanik, who replaced her as the #3 Republican in the House GOP leadership and it starts looking particularly glaring.

I don't think either one of these people have a chance at becoming the next President, but I hope that is decided through an electoral process.

The reason I keep saying she's got a real chance has a name, and that name is Fox News. (Well, two names, actually, and the second name is "News Corp.")

Rupert Murdoch's been a historical kingmaker - or queenmaker - as far back as Margaret Thatcher, who he almost single-handedly made Prime Minister of England back in the '80's.

If he wants to throw his weight behind Liz Cheney - who reminds everyone of Thatcher - he absolutely can.

He can't do that as long as the base is fervently behind Trump, but if Trump expires as a candidate because he can no longer run, the GOP's Big Seat is wide open...and Rupert's going to play a huge, huge role in deciding who sits in it.

Cheney already has massive street cred among independents and even Democrats. If Rupert can repair her image in the eyes of the right - and trust me, he absolutely can - she'll roll over all opponents like Godzilla wading through Tokyo. New conservative dynasty in the making, there.

He will be well-aware of this, too.

I don't think Trump will run, and if he does, I don't think he will make it through the primary. Trump has a very big January 6 problem, especially amongst Libertarian type Republicans and Independents that would vote in the Republican Primary.

Do you think that would beat him in a primary, though? All he has to do is top 40-50% among the GOP base. Right now, anyhow, hard to see him not getting that. There's still a real solid base there and no voice of opposition...and Rupert's not going to throw his weight behind Cheney and risk alienating his audience until she produces Trump's scalp for all to see, either.

The big secret sauce Trump has among his base is the notion that by hook or by crook, he wins. Until Liz slays that myth I see her remaining in the wilderness.
