That variant in the article is one seen to have the potential to make a wave of cases, like JN.1 did.

If you want to follow the variants, and don't trust the CDC, this is the best link:

Sort the column labeled "Relative Growth Advantage" from high to low.

You can usually ignore the top variant or two, as low sample universes skew growth advantage. I don't pay much attention to anything until it reaches 100 samples. I generally look at the total number and the latest week's number. If you have 100 total samples for a variant, and 45 in the past 10 days, that's a fit/growing variant.

As for the variant in the article, it is likely a fairly fit one. Probably the fittest in almost a year, certainly so far in 2025.
