I think he is saying that the critics only observed, so what do they know? For all we know the coots have a great program on the rise, but we can't see it because we don't play the games and are only critics. I thought Tim Tebow was a weak NFL QB, but I didn't play the games, so maybe he is one of the best to ever play in the NFL. I thought Shaquile Oneil was a terrible FT shooter, but for all I know he was one of the best all time and there were other circumstances that only a person who played in his games would know. No reason for us to critique any sports since we aren't playing in the games/battles.

No. I think Hemingway would say it is easy to be a critic when you have nothing but a little time and a ticket invested--no blood, sweat, tears, or effort. Probably never wrote a book. Maybe only read a few.

Hemingway was an ambulance driver in WWI and shot himself in the head to commit suicide at 61. He also had mental issues to top off as well as being an abusive violent alcoholic. I am not sure he is the best gauge. He was a great writer though.

..that book by Hemingway about the fish felt like my 2nd grade reading assignment. “Big fish, fish good”…bleech!

I like Hemingway's writing but let's be real here. He was/is hardly a guy you want to take advice from.

That was not advice. He was making an observation. Big difference.
