Saban quit,some "say" over the NIL
Bama lost 15 Seniors
Bama lost 7 to Early Draft
So far, Bama has lost 30 to the Portal, 2 of those being NO stars, so we can assume, walkons. With weeks left for more to join,it could get worse .
That's 50 out of 85 Scholarship Players gone.
35 Players left from last year's team
4 Portal ins ,so far
25 recruits in 24 Class, subtracting Sayin
Right now , they're at 64 Scholarship Players. Gonna have to Portal BIG Time. Can their new coach attract highly ranked talent with so much of the highly ranked talent at Bama bailing already ?
Any Top Team should expect this to happen,if it can happen to what the GOAT built. The little bit of Silver Lining is Saban had built the deepest Roster of talent out there. His 23 team had 75 4 & 5 Stars on it's team.

Bama is going to have to wait until after spring to fill those gaps pretty much as the initial wave has pretty much wrapped up, save for the exiting coach exception that Bama is suffering through now.

I think Saban retired for why he said he retired which is that he didn't want to have to coach in the environment we find ourselves. He knew what the necessary evils were to remain at the top and he just no longer wanted to be part of it as a head coach. I think he still wants to be around it in an administrative capacity but not as a coach leading the program.
Dabo's approach seems to be that he is going to hang on to his way even if the dynamics change around him which is perfectly his right. The only question is can he get to the top using the same formula that got him there the first 2 times, under considerably different circumstances. I don't think Saban felt like he could and he didn't want to continue on with that being the case.

Supposedly he quit the day he was doing the: end of the season player interviews—player raise demand day-he had 30 scheduled player interviews—

Between Seniors,Early Draftees and Portal entrants, they're having to replace 35 to 40 of their 85.
It may be more, but I didn't take time to fully check for overlap Between the 27 Seniors and the 19 portalers.That's 46 but some still have COVID year and hit the Portal. Then there's the 6 that declared for the draft ,bringing that possible total to 52
They brought in a class of 22 and brought in 5 Portalers so far

The relationships on the coaching staff obviously trump any feelings about their school for a large portion of everyone's roster. That and money of course.

I'm sure the majority of those players entered the portal because Saban left.... not the other way around.

Very well could be.... He has nothing else to prove. Could be sick of the state of college football, could be he just can't put into it what he used to... very few will ever know.
All I knew is it will be tough for Bama to maintain their consistency in this environment with a new coaching staff. Every dynasty has to end sometime. Ebbs and Flows...
