Well if other nations are giving huge financial incentives to these companies, which in turn destroys our domestic movie producing industry I assume you'd prefer it just be allowed to happen, like has happened with many other industries which effectively no longer exist in the US. No wonder Dems are hated by the working class.

Libs cash cow, woke Hollywood, is hurting. Serves those leftists union workers right. Let them leave.
But instead the pain in Hollywood is now considered a "national security" problem, like everything else, so Trump slaps tariffs on IMPORTED movies? Hollywood has a HUGE trade surplus with EVERY COUNTRY ON EARTH. The entire planet wants our movies, and we export them to theaters and online all over the world.
I would say it's just stupid, but nah, it's normal now.
The only country that can come close to Hollywood, is India and Bollywood. So this tariff would mainly impact India.

checks and balances this would be shot down real quick, but we live in an era where Republicans control everything and they are spineless to stand up to Trump.

Haven't looked into it, but how do you collect a tariff on non-goods...

that don't pass through any customs clearance?
Seems like it would need to be something else, like some kind of direct tax or surcharge.

Jesus H Christ, the man is clueless. Half of the original Star Wars was filmed in london, the sound stages in the US were too small. Anyway, I assume he is talking about post production and VFX work, because that is being shipped overseas to Canada and London to the lowest bidder, you know, capitalism. Movies are rarely made on location; the actors like to roll out of bed, drive 2 miles over to Paramount, and shoot in air conditioning while a crew is flying overseas, and using virtual production techniques to integrate the two. British actors never leave London, they are filmed separately, and again, integrated in post-production using virtual production. It is not uncommon for 2 actors in the same movie to never even meet.
Also, the contracts with the studios are so airtight, they do not send work to Asia, or Poland, etc.. unless it is low budget flop. Principal footage leaks out on the next Transformers because some VFX producer decides to save a few grand by sending the rotoscoping work to Asia, and the Phrase, "You will never work in this industry again," is uttered.
And lets also consider that this is one of the smallest industries in the US, there may be a total of 10k post-production workers in the US at any given time, and most of them are H1B visas. When I worked on Harry Potter, I was in Los Angeles, but most of the post-production crew was from Germany and shipped in. I was one of two Americans working on those shots, the movie was filmed in London, cause JK Rollins. Point being, movies are a global industry, and have been since the 1970s. The top guy at creating Digital Explosions may live in London, the company creating the motion capture could be in New Zealand, the Sound Stages in Vancouver, and practical sets are not a thing anymore.
Anyway, best of luck with this
