So I decided to take a look at where he stands. He is:
81st in the country 13th in the ACC has the second shortest long punt of punters in the ACC
Just interesting facts.

😂, I don’t think you have to know the system to punt. Just kick the #### ball!

I'm pretty sure Dale Hatcher's backup does. He was pretty decent back in the day but I don't know how much he's practiced in the last 40 years.

We’ve had some good punters during the Dabo era, but for some reason we’ve struggled to find a good one over the past few years.

And he was absolutely awful on Saturday. Everyone was, top to bottom, left to right. Poor performance by every player and coach in the program. Really disappointing.

starting to think we will never have a year in which the kicking game

in some fashion is not a liability. Fix one thing (went out and got a FG kicker this year) but now punting and FG protection is bad. Not to mention our return game doesn't scare anyone.

In 2021 our FG 7nit was, by far, the best offense weapon. Without the entire FG unit’s brilliance, we’d have probably won only 4 games. Instead, BT Potter’s unit won us 10.
Since 2021 … even with BT Potter still with us for 2022 season, our FG unit has steadily deteriorated. More alarm8ng is that our coaching staff seems to have been caught off guard by the FG unit’s poor in-game performance after the season had started.

I wonder what his average would be WITHOUT the ball hitting the ground and bouncing another 10-15 yards? HOW in the world is he a starting punter for this team????? Special teams have NOT been 'special' for quite a while now and it is getting very old....quickly!

I’m cool with a clever low trajectory punt that is directed so that the punt returner can’t reposition himself to handle the bounces.
As long as the bounces from the well directed low trajectory punt moves the ball 40+ yards down field and then gets touched down by our punt return unit.
As long as the low trajectory punt doesn’t allow for an easy block.
As long as the time to launch the kick doesn’t take too long and get blocked.
We’ve been living dangerously re our punt team. Saturday night we got hurt by it.

A punter is a very, very valuable and underappreciated weapon. UGA has been blessed with awesome punters over the years. Junior Brett Thorson avg this year is 47+ and has a career avg of 45+ at UGA. He's currently #7 in the country and #1 in the SEC.
Before him, UGA had Jake Camarda, who is now with Tampa.
Both of those guys could completely flip the field for our defense. When they pinned the opposing team inside their own ten, no one drove the entire field and scored a TD.

In my opinion we have not had a great punter since, Pinion. I don't understand why we don't recruit and Australian. Heck, the worst one from that academy over there has to be better than anything we have gotten recently. We can give up one scholarship for this position.
We want to be a run first offense with a dominate defense, having a punter just seems like a no brainer. A great punter helps with field position, which is key for a defense. But pair that with a really good defense and now you set your offense up consistently with good field position. For all the stats and numbers, etc. that we like to look at. I just don't understand why we have not put some small amount of focus on this one position. Its absolutely mind boggling for me.
Thats my second guessing comment for the day. Go Tigers, get back to work and beat the Turkeys!

Spires was pretty good.
After Pinion and Spiers, we’ve struggled to achieve mediocrity on our punt team.

I thought so too. They both have a lower net than Swanson. I don't see how that's possible.

Our punt return unit has been very good as far as catching the punt. Very few fumbles. We do a good job of running to the punt landing place and then catching it. We don’t have a high incidence of block-in-the-back penalties on punts, but this is largely because we fair-catch ~90% of the incoming punts.
Our K.O. unit has been very good because we’ve had hammers who kick the ball deep into the end zone. However, given the rules for KOs today, we are not able to easily distinguish our KO unit from other teams’ units.

Probably me. I have mentioned it multiple times. Our special teams are not that special.
Punter is consistently bad year after year. When have we blocked a punt or a field goal?
Seems every team we play against has a boomer and we are lucky to get a 40 yarder. Sad really you cannot recruit a punter. Probably folks walking around campus that could punt better.

we punt a lot from around midfield. he uses the australian rugby kick a lot. not a big fan myself but it is usually effective. the guy was the mvp in the notre dame game last year. how soon you forget that. get them charts out and look at where we punt from. he is not a boomer but he is effective.

Don't we have a punter on scholarship? The big tall kid? I thought he was supposed to have a cannon for a leg?
