What even is college football anymore?

Universities are dumping millions into one program each year and then additional millions on a coach.
Colleges are BUYING their head coach's former homes (notice how homes is plural) for over market value.
GIVING one man a 6 million dollar house in LA.
Flying him and his family on a private jet then handing the keys to his wife.
Putting them and their family in a Mercedes van to leave the airport.
Moving or attempting to move the whole staff with them (this has been going on for awhile)
Thanks to the transfer portal the players can go with the coaches as well.
Now other coaches are poaching other coaches to get the recruits that the poached coach was going to get.
Coaches are giving the athletic departments 24 hour notice before the season is even over that they are leaving.
It's the wild west out here.

It's a poorly-run, semi-pro feeder for the NFL.

Who cares, it’s been like this for decades just we had blindfolds on and weren’t allowed to see behind the curtain. Now it’s all out on the open, instead of complaints like this why not stop watching, honestly just sounds like sour grapes of you complain and still watch. Love it or stop watching it.

College football is a huge business, and always has been but just at a different level now.

of these coaches salaries and perks. However, with college football there are increasing concerns that some public institutions are going overboard on this while giving short shrift to their educational mission and ultimately the tax payers.
It is quite telling when the highest paid state employee in almost every state is a public college football coach. I understand that tax dollars don't directly pay these high salaries but in some situations our tax dollars do free up donor/foundation money to go toward these high salaries that would otherwise have to be spent on running the college. Don't believe that tax dollars are a hidden factor in paying these high salaries? Just tell the state funded schools we are going to cut the taxpayer funds to the college by an amount equal to the sum of all the football coaching salaries and see the caterwauling that ensues from the college administrations...

Tuition is in a vicious cycle as well. The colleges raise their tuitions knowing full well the government will pony up more loans for the student. The ultimate victim is the student. On top of that they get an education that really isn’t worth much anymore because it is watered down in the name of equity.

Well written. My simplified take is that there were universities before football. Therefore, education before entertainment. Today there is football/entertainment and then education.
The capitalistic balloon would burst if donors/football fans decided for one year to not contribute; let the expenditures adjust. It likely won't happen in my lifetime, but IMO the process has merit.
FACTS: In a 8/24/20 letter to IPTAY members, senior administrators noted that people had asked about IPTAY personnel and costs. The answere: $3.3 million for salaries and benefits – for 36 staff members tasked with day-to-day operations and implementation of the duties of the Organization.
That is - $91,666 average per employee.

USC didn't buy Riley's homes, that's been debunked already. You might find this hard to believe, but everything you read on Twitter isn't true.

Coaches have been moving entire staffs for decades. Long-time coordinators and assistants have always followed their head coach to a new destination. This also happens in every other industry. I've worked in automotive and broadcasting, both times we had management changes, and those new leaders brought their own team in to reset our business.

The problem is it’s now semi-pro but without any of the constrain of the NFL. Maybe it’s time for salary caps, and a HS draft?

It will be interesting to see the impact on Oklahoma football in the next few years. Seems the program is being decimated between recruit de commits and transfers. I would be surprised if OU even sniffs the Big 12 championship in the next few years.

If they are going to sniff a Big 12 title, they had better do it before 2025 because that's when they go to the SECheat.
