I see these “Build a dream team” posts all the time and figured I’d try and give a Clemson one a go. (Disclaimer: I tried to keep it somewhat as “modern” as possible. Obviously I probably left/forgot some off of the list.)
$20 to build an Offense. 1-QB 2-RB 2-WRs 1-TE
$5- Trevor Lawrence, Deshaun Watson, CJ Spiller, Travis Etienne, Raymond Priester, Sammy Watkins, Deandre Hopkins, Mike Williams, Jordan Leggett.
$4- Woody Dantzler, Tajh Boyd, Terry Allen, Wayne Gallman, Tee Higgins, Derrick Hamilton, Hunter Renfrow, Dwayne Allen.
$3- Charlie Whitehurst, Cade Klubnik, James Davis, Will Shipley, Andre Ellington, Artavis Scott, Justyn Ross, Amari Rodgers, Davis Allen, Jake Briningstool.
$2- Cullen Harper, Kyle Parker, Travis Zachary, Phil Mafah, Roderick McDowell, Deon Cain, Martavis Bryant, Aaron Kelly, Michael Palmer.
$1- Kelly Bryant, Cole Stoudt, Reggie Merriweather, Chad Jasmin, Jacoby Ford, Ray Ray McCloud, Chansi Stuckey, Brandon Ford.

It took long enough to come up with skill guys, I can’t imagine going thru 30ish years of OL to put them in tiers lol.

I think of this as a fanatasy football set up. Is there and OL choice in fanatasy? They are responsible for points scored, but they do not score points themselves. This is why they are always the unsung hero's of offensive football.
Goes to why I dislike showboating in the endzone...not that I say don't do it. I just don't like it, but it comes off like they guy thinks he did it by himself.

Watson & Lawrence would not have been so productive W/o Renfrow, he was their know where he is guy and get the ball near him! HR made Clemson tick and everyone knew it and they still could not stop! He is the one thing that those QBs had in common...we were WR U at that very time!

I know TLaw was the better QB but there was a calmness I had going into every game with DW4 at the helm. Like no matter what I thought we were gonna win because he was gonna make a play to assure it.

Dad,
I would have picked DW4 over TL 16 as well, if it were not for the way DW has fallen apart lately.

Couldn’t agree more. Like I said in the post above, I was confident every game in the DW4 era solely bc he was our QB. No matter the situation, he had a way of settling the whole team down somehow. Some of my favorite years of being a Clemson fan.

I'm spending the first 10 on Watson/Watkins I'm taking the value with Martavis at 2 and Davis Allen at 3 I round out the RB's with James Davis at 3 and the insanely undervalued Mafah at 2

In comparison to the other RBs on the list; I feel like he’s positioned right. I won’t deny Mafahs talent but his resume isn’t that of the others, only because of the situation he’s found himself in during his career.

DW4 Sammy and Travis for 15 bucks. Give me Dione Cain for 2$. Give me Chad Jasmin, and Brandon ford for 1$ a piece. With my last remaining dollar give me Jacoby Ford for a back up receiver and return man.

would require a bit more thought if i couldn't just get a #1 QB, RB, and WR.
QB - Lawrence RB - Etienne, Merriweather WR - Higgins, Scott TE - Palmer
There are some really good $3 and $4 running backs, but i think it's still worth the money to get Etienne or Spiller. I think a lot of people will go Watson/Spiller but i like Lawrence and Etienne a bit better. Tee Higgins is a good deal at $4 as well.
I wanted one big WR that can go up and get the football plus a complimentary guy that brought something else to the table. I went with Tee and Artavis for the screen and jet sweep game. Also thought about Mike Williams and Deon Cain for Cain's HR ability.
Palmer is a solid TE that had a decent NFL career for $2.

Sammy Watkins + whatever you can afford at WR2 and TE. I wouldn't fault anyone for just taking Sammy and worrying about the rest later.

Palmer was my favorite Clemson player for the longest time. At a time when Clemson wasn’t all that great, it felt like we could always depend on him to make a play.

I'd go with Trevor, Spiller, Mafah, Tee Higgins, Jacoby Ford, Biringstool.
Could go Meriwether instead of Mafah. Tough call.
I like my lineup. Speed, power, size. Has it all

QB - Deshaun Watson RB1 - Travis Etienne RB2 - Phil Mafah WR1 - Tee Higgins WR2 - Jacoby Ford TE - Jake Briningstool
I give the edge to DW here for his quick play adapting, rushing, and how he'd handle the rest of this roster. A hard working winner at the CU that broke the ice. ETN offers top dual threat plus explosive breakaway speed, allowing the stud Mafah in as a bargain and a great complement per situation. Both have good hands that would match well with DW. A 2-back set here would be something to behold. Briningstool is going to continue to produce big numbers and he looks dialed in to keep the growth going as this season unfolds. Not a steal but a great floor with gravy potential. From a WR combo, Higgins and Ford offer the rangy edge hound and the inside speedster, both capable of stretching the field and slugging it out inside for needed yards - not the tops at each but close enough budgetwise.
Go Tigers!

Appreciate it! Gotta say, really happy with how many selections of James Davis I’ve seen. No doubt Clemson has had a bunch of great backs since his days, but “Thunder” has and always will be one of my favorite Tigers of all time.
