Does Syracuse transfer guard Joe Girard have a decision date set for his choice between Clemson and LSU?

I don’t know if the commitment we just got reflects anything about Girard’s decision, probably not given we landed a power forward and Girard is a shooter. But I have no clue when. I’ve heard “soon” within the last week.

it would be nice bringing in another top 100 transfer to go along with Jack Clark from NCST. the other two guys -Air Force and UNCG players- are projects way up the bench at best next season...

Outgoing transfers
- Chauncey Gibson: he was a redshirt and wouldn't have made an impact this year due to skill level
- middlebrooks: backup center. Averaged 3.1 points and 2.7 rebounds
Incoming transfers
-Heidbreder: all conference selection at Air Force who shot 40% from 3 and averaged 15ppg. The mountain west was considered to be a better conference than the ACC this past year among a lot of tigernetters.
- Jack Clark: a starter for an ncaa tournament team when healthy. Good rebounder
- bas leyte: starter for UNCG and averaged 7.6 pts and 4.3 reb a game. Only played 23 min per game
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to tell that we have already upgraded our team through the portal so far this year, and we still are not done yet.

I wouldn’t say “upgrade” yet. I think PJ is returning, but if he’s not there, go ahead and fire Brad.
If Girard goes elsewhere and these 3 are the transfers we get, are they really upgrades from Tyson, Middlebrooks, and Galloway’s production? As much as we hated how last year ended, Tyson had an immaculate season, Galloway was the streakiest scorer we’ve had since Gabe Devoe, and Middlebrooks never stopped hustling and gave extreme physicality.
I really think Girard is a must. He’s as good as Galloway, if not maybe better honestly. We get Girard and PJ to come back, I’m really feeling okay about next year.

Chase is a really good player. Really good.
I just want to see him step up his game next year though. He has Marcquise Reed ability when it comes to scoring. Just a natural scorer in every way at PG. He just had a lot of times where he froze up and couldn’t get going when we needed him.
So just the consistency is why I’m “sleeping” on him.

When Chase was out with injury, it made a big difference in the way the team played.

I'm simply comparing our incoming transfer and outgoing transfers.
We have improved our team through the portal this far. If better players left our team than what we brought in, then our team would have gotten worse through the portal.

And we improved it the year before. And the year before. So just how bad of a coach do you think Brownell is that he puts a better team on the floor every single year but still can’t make the tourney?

This isn’t true. Do you think these teams we’ve had the last few years got better and better from our 2017 Sweet 16?
That said, most teams Brad has had have been well good enough to get to the tournament at least.

Lmao. You still can't grasp a simple concept.
When speaking strictly of transfers, brownell has upgraded our team. Not every year, but most years.
I have never said our entire team has improved every single year. I have said that brownell typically brings in better players through the portal than he has players transfer out. That is true.
It is especially true this year. We have upgraded our team through the portal, but the jury is still out on whether we will be a better team next year. We lost brevin Galloway and hunter Tyson who was a 1st team all acc performer. Those 2 are going to be tough ones to replace.
At the end of the season, our roster did not include brevin Galloway Or hunter Tyson. We all knew before the season that they had 1 year of eligibility left.

He one of the best at mining the portal. Check the history. Rarely are portal additions the the Clemson program busts.

3/13 says you’re wrong. The lowest percentage of seasons in the tourney since expansion other than Larry Shyatt. Unlike Shyatt, when Brownell is fired he won’t be winning national championship rings as an assistant or working in the NBA for an NBA championship wining coach.

Gibson and Heibreider are basically a wash

You say Gibson was not going to be a contributor due to skill level. Well, if Heidbreider redshirts due to back surgery he wont be contributing at all. Sounds like we replaced our backup center with another backup center.
So we have basically picked up a starting guard for a first round loss tournament team, that we beat 3 times.

We picked up a back up center which is a big deal.
We picked up Jack Clark that will play SF for us. He is 6'8 and a good rebounder
We also picked up heidbreder who was an all conference selection. Yes he will likely redshirt. I don't think that's 100% though.
We are not done in the portal. We are favored for a very good in conference guard.

What makes you think we’re favored for Girard?
Look, I agree that Brad has done better in the portal. I’ve been one of the only ones to explain that Brad pulled Jack Clark away from the interests of Xavier and Villanova, 2 historic basketball programs.
But “improving” means that you’re seeing better end season results every year. Yes the last season was better than 2022, but overall it’s more of if we could’ve won 2 games that we lost that made us a miss for the NCAAT. There’s a baseline Brad. Your expectation is to finish top-half of ACC and to be somewhere around the bubble. Simply bringing in transfers does not improve anything except for depth. We’ve got to make a tournament for me to say he’s improving at anything, that includes recruiting.
Also, no one knows how good these transfers will be. Except for Girard.

If you’re lucky he will play despite being less than 100%. Then, when we lose to some garbage team early in the season ( like we do almost every year ) you can blame on that and plead for Brownell to keep his job one more year.

Heidbreder is likely going to redshirt because he is having back surgery.
