Brownell did not lose this game for Clemson.

NCST had a couple of really good players who were on fire tonight, and we missed some key shots late. I get it, I have been highly critical of Brownell for some time, and have called for a coaching change for years. Clemson's long record of mediocrity under Brownell is indisputable. Having said that, every missed shot and every turnover and every stupid foul and every loss is not because Brownell sucks, good grief.

He made the same coaching mistakes he has made in other games. So he’s proving he doesn’t learn from his errors which has cost us games we should have won.

And a 5 seed in the ncaa tourney before this game.
nothing will be acceptable to the haters until we are a top 10 team every single year.
We just won 3 games in a row at UNC, at syracuss, and vs miami, and now we lose and it's FIRE BROWNELL!!!!
You people are a special bunch.

one way or the other about how good or bad Brownell is. I'm just saying that tonight, we didn't lose because Brownell sucks, but people are so hung up on "Brownell sucks", they can't think clearly, or stay on topic. Instead, all they can do is regurgitate "Brownell sucks".

14 years is a history of no success outside of 1 sweet 16 run.
That is why Brad needs to go. He is a big reason we lost tonight, how can you argue otherwise is my concern. Lack of in-game coaching 14 years later, enough
Agree to disagree, Brad failed to lead his team to victory and blow a 12 point lead in last 10 minutes

Especially for a fan base that prides itself on being exceptional.
Brad loves Clemson. It’s fine if people want to go in a different direction, but bashing him on such a nasty level isn’t becoming of Clemson people.

..or any other person who supports a coach they like.
I am just done with Brad Brownell. Tired of his teams blowing big leads, tired of getting excited about a team of his just to be disappointed.
This team is not bad, but if that's the best he can do in 14 years then we need to give someone else a try.

"And a 5 seed in the ncaa tourney before this game. " - irrelevant
"nothing will be acceptable to the haters until we are a top 10 team every single year." - strawman
"We just won 3 games in a row at UNC, at syracuss, and vs miami" - irrelevant, but ironically I learned today that since 2010 only Boston College loses more when favorited. Guess what we did today?
"now we lose and it's FIRE BROWNELL!!!" - strawman
"You people are a special bunch." = violation of T.O.S.
"Once again, plenty of bball left to be played. " - that's the problem.

Maybe the plan was to push it down the court if you could, or call a TO if you got pressured. Maybe the plan was to drive all the wayto the basket and draw a foul, or maybe Hunter didn't do what he was supposed to do. We almost pulled it off. We don't know, can't just assume.

The last possession was fine. We got exactly what we wanted. Could have very easily been a foul called on Middlebrooks.
Going 4+ minutes without a field goal late in the game and not being able to handle pressure and protect the ball cost us that game.

Calling a timeout wouldn’t have been wrong, but if we felt good about our plan then calling a timeout there would only serve to let NC State setup their defense.
I really liked getting Chase going to the basket. I thought he got a good look, and also put himself in position to be fouled. We had guys crashing the boards for a putback, and PJ had a chance.
It stinks to lose, but I thought it was a great play call and we gave ourselves a good chance.

I disagree, playing PJ Hall at the 3 point line on offense is taking him out of the game. PJ is one of the best big men in college basketball and can take anybody to the basket and draw a foul. If he does this in the first half, you take Burns and Middlebrook out of the game. Neither could handle Hall down low. This is a coaching decision.

NC State went on a run right after. He failed to manage the time remaining, poor team management, crappy time out usage. But baller it on the other team shooting better or the refs.
Bottom line. We have had over a decade of mediocre results. Once a few years we get in the ncaa, and once we actually made a bit of a run.
If you want more of this then keep preaching for him.
Most fans want to at least look like we are trying for better. If we make a change and it doesn’t work then at least we tried vs settling for this mediocre BS!

Because I have been calling for a coaching change for 10 years. I like Brownell, but the results are what they are, and he can't be separated from them. His legacy here is failure to reach the level of success we strive for. So you and many others are completely misunderstanding and misconstuing my point, which is TONIGHT, we didn't lose this particular game because Brownell sucks. We got beat by a very similarly talented team who had a couple of players on fire tonight. It happens to EVERY team. Suck it up and move on.

So no Brownell didn’t lose this game for Clemson, but he didn’t win it either.

season, then I understand why they blame every missed shot and every turnover and every loss squarely on him - it gives them another chance to scream "FIRE BROWNELL!". If they are willing for Clemson to lose games and play terribly so it gets Brownell fired, I understand why they would.
Trust me, as I've said, I have called for a coaching change for probably 10 years, so I get the frustration and the cumulative effect. But right now, we have a real chance to make the tourney and make a run, and that means more to me than getting Brownell fired. IF we do, and if I've been wrong and we really are starting to build something with Clemson basketball, we should all be happy. If not, THEN we can scream for Brownell's head, but until then, not every time we lose a game by one-point.

I agree with everything you just wrote. He is obviously not getting fired after this game. He may not get fired after this season, depending on how it goes. I certainly don’t expect it at this point. However that doesn’t change the frustration and the venting.
This is a talented team. They could/should make some noise post season. I’m hoping for the best, but I have little confidence in Brownell to get it done. I could certainly be wrong. It is what it is.

I agree with you. Critique when it is warranted but at the end of the day the players needed to make a few more plays. How good (record wise) would this team have been if we could have found a way to win these close games. Hate to lose a basketball or a baseball series at home though. Let’s just win out!
