Billion Dollars

Oct 30, 2019, 11:16 AM

The NCAA is a non profit (hilarious) that rakes in roughly a billion dollars annually. Mark Emmert makes around 4 million to head the organization. The NCAA truly hinders operations more than moving things forward. I see the NCAA disappearing at some point and a football landscape consisting of a Power 5 Champion and a Group of 5 Champion. College sports are driven more and more by money. The schools will eventually demand all of the pie/money and the NCAA will not have a leg to stand on. College sports are about generating revenue and the term student-athlete is a misnomer. The time has come to treat college sports as money making leagues and to stop the rhetoric of amateurism. All of the money comes from basketball and football, so the other sports should simply say thank you for letting us ride on the ROY bus. Super Conferences will eventually create their own broadcasting deals and eliminate the NCAA. What has been the greatest accomplishment by the NCAA since 2010? I would be interested to hear that.

The conferences, collectively. Same thing that happened with CFP, which is not an NCAA committee.

Who's in charge of that NOW?***

Even if the P5 schools split off and formed their own

division, they would still need to setup their own new governing body to replace the NCAA. No sports league of that size that can exist without one.

CEO

You have a CEO/Commissioner like professional leagues and run it that way. College Hoops and College Football are essentially professional sports at this point.

You still have to pay all of those people

Oct 30, 2019, 12:29 PM

The NCAA wouldn't be replaced to save money, it would be replaced because the P5 schools want their own set of rules apart from all of the other schools in the NCAA that don't makes piles of cash from football and basketball.

It's hilarious that you don't see the irony in your statement that you think a BILLION dollar business is going to be forced out when something becomes "about the money".

If there is only one thing the NCAA does well, it's protect that billion dollars.

I also think you are wrong to think the schools are at odds with the NCAA.

Those two entities want things to remain as they are now.

They are simply making concessions to the individuals who are against them.

Mark Cuban in an interview basically said that he thought teams would coordinate an organized withdrawal and set up their own league if the NCAA did not address players being compensated. The quick turnaround from the NCAA may have occurred at least partly in reaction to that concern. It really would not have taken many teams to force the issue. If the ten biggest powerhouses in basketball and football made a decision to go it on their own, how many others would follow? If the "New League" CFP is offering Ohio State, Alabama, Clemson, and Oklahoma and the NCAA is offering Utah, Baylor, Minnesota, and SMU, which one would people watch?

$4 million is a bargain for a billion dollar operation.
