Big plays given up on D

It happened last year and now in practice. Will we be able to hold Auburn to 21 or less? Big plays are what they thrive on. I think if we cause a few turnovers and some 3 and outs we will run away but if our D continues with bust they could keep it close. I like our chances in any close game with DW leading they way.

getting the opponent's offense off the field quickly. So with that in mind, we either get a three-and-out or run the risk of giving up a big play. Either way, our defense stays fresh and our offense gets the ball back.

Obviously you never want to give up points, but with our offense I would prefer "boom or bust" over "bend but don't break". I don't want opponents eating up clock and thinking they keep possession. The more opportunities Watson and company get the better.
I think our defense gets a lot of sacks and interceptions this year because teams will be trying to force the ball down field to keep up.

similar to 2013 where they led the nation in rushing. Nick Marshall was taken off the scrap heap after UGA show him the door - he was a DB there. Gus was patient in the run game and took a team not expected to do much to the National Title game. I don't believe he'll panic.
Auburn was only ~110th in the nation in passing that year. They used a hammer for a HB/FB with a TE and ran the inline & out options to perfection. With Clemson's young defensive ends, Gus may look to test their grit often, then hope to catch Clemson's DBs taking peeks in the backfield with a few over the top.
Both defenses will be familiar with what's in front of them as they face a lot of it everyday.

I was thinking the same. If last years D was top 10 and this year "the corners" have a long way to go, are we looking at more bust in coverage. Coach V is so aggressive on D you know it pains him to think maybe we should play zone (bend but don't break) defense.

Also remember that the defense is likely playing against the best offense in college football this summer. Iron sharpens iron. Clemson will be fine.

in a tough road environment in the first game of the season with a defense replacing a bunch of starters. 21 whole points!
IMO giving up 21 would be a pretty stellar defensive effort and would likely mean a pretty easy win.

Our defense is sort of high-risk/high reward by design, and while sometimes we get burned, with superior talent we win a lot more than we lose. Also, just because we are having some issues early in fall camp, it doesn't mean it will carry over into the regular season.

Auburn's offense cant touch ours. Its that simple. Their quarterback is shaky, they have lost three talented running backs and their best receiver and a DE and a DB all in the last few weeks. To even think Auburn can keep up with Clemson at this point is almost laughable.

yet they managed to hang around. Even with the issues Auburn still has better talent than both of those schools along with a better coach and a more difficult environment to play in. Weird things can happen in CFB. We could turn the ball over 4-5 times, we could blow some assignments and give them a couple easy TDs, etc.
