At the granddaddy of all bowls..the ROSE BOWL where we watched USC vs MICH after viewing the nearby & unreal beautiful Tournament of Roses Parade.

Won a trip for 4 from Russell Clothing thru a Belk Dept Store drawing in Charlotte valued at $4800 then with everything paid for plus $1600 cash spending money..including air flight, fine hotels, meals, private bus to parade & game, tix at 50 yd line, car rental so to drive from LA to SF to tour and then to Vegas b/4 game in Pasadena.

Got to hear in person what turned out to be my fav fight sing (other than Tiger Rag)..”Hail To The Victor” by Wolverines Band.

If you can ever attend the Parade & Game please do so!

PS: know I had tix to see Tigers play OK but gave them up after winning Rose Bowl trip but kept up with them at Parade via a small battery operated TV and on the short bus ride to Stadium but then had to learn final score while at an urinal when a man yelled out F Clemson since they cost me $500..and I yelled out..GO TiGERS! LOL, but true!

The Hall of Fame Bowl in Tampa 1/1/91 after 1990 season

I loved the trip to Atlanta for the Chick-fil-A bowl win over LSU where I spent a lot of time with my son BigAl and we had a blast.

But the trip to Tampa 34 years ago was awesome as far as sites. I met some friends in Charlotte on New Year's Eve where the weather was cold and rainy. After the 600 mile, nine hour trip to Tampa, it was sunny and 80s and people were on the beach in swimsuits.

We stayed at a nice hotel, ate at a couple of nice restaurants, had some fun at a local pub, and went out to the beach a couple of times. There were a lot of nice young and older people since Tampa is next to St. Petersburg. The icing on the cake was the dominating 30-0 win over Illinois.

First and worst bowl trip was the '79 Peach Bowl where we felt like a popsicle and lost to Baylor 24-18.
