Where does Tyshon Dye land on the Depth Chart?

Aug 9, 2013, 3:11 PM

Where do you guys think Tyshon Dye lands on the Depth Chart at the opening of the season? I know it's kind of silly to speculate about this right now but when watching the practice reports, Dye is a standout and he brings a power-run game to our offense that could be beneficial.

We all know McDowell is likely to end up the starter. Does Dye end up in the second slot or do DJ Howard and Zac Brooks beat him out? I know Brooks has had a lot of problems with ball protection so that could move him back. And I haven't heard a whole lot about DJ Howard.

Or does anyone think he just redshirts this season?

I'd be livid if I were Dye and we needed him to RS - unless that was clearly understood during the recruiting period. Who knows what was understood. With his injury last year, I was worried about him, but the few practice clips I've seen, we need him on the field THIS year. HotRod is awesome IMO, but he needs someone to help carry the load.

A lot depends on how well he blocks

He has the size to be effective in that aspect, but the lack of experience may hold him back.

^^^This. If he can't pass protect in blitz situations, he

won't play much. Our offense relies a LOT on that pass protect package.

IMHO this and learning all those PLAYS and variations will tell the tale..I don`t think anyone has any doubt him "caring the rock"blitz pick-up is biggest concern

Go read McDowell's comments on Dye's pass blocking.....

in "Last Hoorah" article.

Hot Rod said Dye prided himself in blocking/pass protection. Also mentioned he was a big enough to handle it.

I look forward to seeing Hot Rod run up the middle. He's going to be more physical this season. I believe he will surprise many Tiger fans.

Don't doubt that McDowell is probably correct in his analysis, but it's Chad Morris (if I recall correctly) that will make that determination. ;)

I know he has been impressive in the videos and in comments from observers. He is obviously a physically impressive young man and seems to bring an element we have not had in a while, but it is the thing we have not heard about him that really impresses me so far. There has been no word about him having ball security issues. I think he's ready and I hope Hot Rod has an amazing and healthy year so Dye can get significant carries that will help us down the road. Hopefully he'll end up 3rd or maybe even 2nd string.

Behind Gallman

Aug 9, 2013, 4:28 PM

Gonna go against the grain and say that Gallman gets the nod (if they both don't get PT).

Based on what? Practice report videos of course. Holds up just as good as "217 lbs" and an extra recruiting star.

Seriously though. I have no idea which one of these guys gets the bid or whether or not Hot Rod or Zac Brooks will come to play. Just hope we have a game breaker among them.

Well I believe at least one of them is going to get redshirted this season and I've seen and heard more about Dye than Gallman, so I think Dye will get the nod before Gallman. I dont know though. It will be interesting to keep an eye on.
