However, it's hard to ignore concerns with this signing period. Not only did we have defections and a small class, but the overall roster is in need of some quality depth.
There are some really good players committed to us in this class, just not enough. When you rely on player development, recruiting is absolutely critical.
I have never beat the portal drum but I can't see how we don't turn to the portal for DE, LB, DB, RB, and backup QB this year. Yeah we have some young guys in those positions but they need to develop and we need depth.

Until folks announce TP, this class is extremely low on openings - we only have a handful that exhaust eligibility.

1)You dont need 105 to field a quality team. You dont even need 85.

2)for the first 1-3 years those 86-105 are going to be filled by walkons who are already on the team. The first year they will have to cut existing walkons because roster size is being drastically reduced. 3)The further you get down the list the more those guys are going to be prone to leave for a bump up in the depth chart at some program in need.

and 4) the move to 105 I believe occurs well after decision dates.

exactly - we are well over 105, we are at like 120 or 125 don't remember which

but that means we have 35-40 walkons. You can't have walkons when this goes into effect. Your roster limit is 105 period. So say we have 85 on scholarship now, and 13 of those exhaust eligibility and/or transfer. If we sign 13 HS players then we have 20 slots next year for 35-40 kids in our program(minus any walkons that exhaust eligibility). There's going to be kids on our team that are walkons that are told they either have to transfer if they want to continue playing the game or if they want to stay at Clemson then they can't be part of the football team any longer. There is no phase in period to address those on your roster. Going forward there will be 15-20 less guys at every major college that can't be part of a D1 team.
