agree. Not a fan of the Woodford line.

for reference, my go-to is Elijah Craig.
tried some of that Double Oaked FSU game weekend, I assume it's spendy, but once again I was not impressed by a Woodford offering. Apparently many people love it though, so there's that.

I mean, I like it, but that's just, like, my opinion, man.

It got me probably the drunkest I've ever been as an adult at a football game at the ND 2015 Great Flood. That's probably what I was finger-stirring that night. We also put down an entire bottle at a bar in Louisville one year--easy way to turn a $60 bottle into a $400 bottle. It's like magic.

about the secondary market, and mash bills and stuff, maybe your opinion would carry more weight.
All I know is bourbon is supposed to be named after some guy that invented it, even if that story is just made up.

As you said, not that much bite. It depends on what I'm in the mood for. If you're looking for a little more bite, try 1792 Full Proof or, if you like ryes, definitely go with Redemption High Rye.

I lean more towards Scotch and Irish, so I'm definitely not a Bourbon expert, but the stuff I've had from Woodford is pretty good. I've tried Elijah Craig and didn't really like it, but it was some of their normal mix. Basil Hayden is pretty good. Probably my go to, if I have a Bourbon go to.

Oban is my go-to for Scotch. I usually get the 14 year. I'm more into the nutty/honey/oaky type of flavors. I like the peaty whiskies occasionally. Aberlour is another one I like. It's aged in Sherry casks - gives it a good flavor and very smooth. For a good easy drinker, with some character, that is not too bad on the wallet try Bushmills Black Bush. Some friends gave me a bottle of Connemara single pot Irish Whisky for my birthday last year, and it was really good. It had a slight bit of that peat flavor with the classic Irish creamy after taste. Most decent Irish Whiskies tend to be pretty smooth, and most have this sort of creamy after taste. And Jameson is another decent one if you don't want to spend too much. Not a ton of character, but very smooth. It's a good beginner Irish. I had the Glenlivet 14 year scotch this year. I haven't had a Glenlivet in a while, and it was really good - more along the lines of nutty and honey.
If you like a bite in your whisky, try High West - Campfire. It's a bourbon, scotch, rye mix. Not exactly smooth, but has a ton of character, especially if you like smokey whiskies.

The campfire is Bourbon up front and finishes with a peat Scotch taste. Not something I would drink on the regular, but it's interesting.

Oban is dessert Scotch. Fine as an after dinner drink.

Or as an aperitif. Well made for sure.
But I’m with the padre. Give APM Islay. Or Talisker. Or a blend for a daily dram.

If I'm going to have a drink with dessert, it's probably not going to be Scotch. I would probably be drinking a red wine or a brandy.

to clarify "dessert" meaning after dinner, not with dessert.

Oh no. Scotch stands alone. Or maybe with a good haggis.

Noting that you said you think it's too smooth, might I suggest Noah's mill or Rowan's Creek?
Both of those have a definite bite.

One thing I have learned about bourbon over the years is

to NOT stack them. They tend to fall, break, and you lose all that precious juice.
I actually have never had the Double Oaked, but I always enjoy a nice pour of Woodford Reserve or use it to make a Mint Julep.
WT101 if you want something with more of a bite, and that is a hill I will die on. $35 for a half gallon, or something like that.

Been a while, but if I remember correctly I found

the nose to be of dark fruit, caramel, sharp honey, chocolate, marzipan and toasted oak. And the taste was a full-bodied mix of vanilla, dark caramel, hazelnut, apple, fruit and spices.
The finish was Long and creamy with lingering hints of honeyed apple.
So if you like those things, it's a solid liquid.

Woodford is my go-to bourbon. I enjoy the smokey finish that distinques Woodford from other bourbons and has a smooth flavor start to finish. However, I like prefer the regular Woodford to the one in photo.
