Why can't SC recruit well out of state?

They will readily admit that they (coots) don't have the recruiting presence out of state that Clemson, Georgia, Auburn, Bama, FSU, Florida etc does.
But why? They are in the SEC, have millions of dollars, have had a decent run in the past half a decade, so one would think that this trend would reverse.

They haven't any historical worth . They haven't any future to look forward to . They exist in the shadow of the PAW , and they smell like cheese . Put that on a recruiting commercial ....and interest will surely wane . I mean , if there were any interest to begin with .

There are a lot of problems with usc-e, but Columbia isn't a bad place. If you like medium sized cities, it's a pretty good place to live. Clemson is beautiful, but appeals to a different group than usc-e. Personally, I love a pastoral setting. It seems that the kids who like a city better play better basketball than they do football. Maybe it's got something to do with basketball being more of an inside sport.

Have to give potential recruits body armore and steel toed boots during their first stadium visit . The bus they take lools like sething out of Mad Max . Then they have to.sign a waiver that precludes SCar from any responsibility should they have a reaction to the penicillin and tetanus boosters that are required before exiting the bus to r UK n the gauntletinto the stadium . Kinda puts a cloud of doubt in most recruits minds . Those with other options , anyway.

Its simple, you named a few winning programs...I'm not saying we're a Alabama but we aren't a losing program either. South Carolina is in the losing category, even with that 5 year run against us(seems like that never happened now), it doesn't change the fact their program isn't where we are. The rich get richer.

Before OBC USCe had a losing football record! They have no sustained legacy other than hiring a number of HCs largely past their prime and the stadium until the last decade was nothing of comparison to any other in either the top ACC or SEC venues. While USuck does have a few quality academic programs and an interesting historic campus segment known as the Horseshoe, overall the university really has been overtaken by others of equal or better value.
Clemson, Furman, Wofford and even Winthrop have much more appeal to students seeking a campus setting within the confines of a major city.

Their biggest problem is Ball Sack's age. I lived in Alabama when Bryant was still coaching and saw how Auburn used his age against him...however Bryant being a legend, and Ball Sack being a turd, the arrogance he has turns a lot of kids and parents off, I am sure...Ball Sack has nothing to sell to the kids of this generation

IMHO, they should only be a topic of conversation during the last week of November. Anything more than that gives them undue credit.

And seeing as how we just picked up the #3 in state player and already have the #1 player committed it seemed like a relevant discussion to have.
The only reason that USCjr was able to have that unprecedented run vs Tigers was a result of TB leaving and the coots picking up a wealth of in state talent during that Void.
If the Tigers continue to win the in state recruiting and the coots can't recruit out of state successfully then we should have a serious advantage over the foreseeable future in the rivalry.
Does that answer your question?

It's not just a particularly noteworthy school in any respect. Being from NJ, I will tell you that the out-of-state perspective on Clemson is that it is a beautiful campus, a lot of fun to attend, has a solid academic reputation, and has some high-profile athletics (obviously, primarily football). I know a relatively decent number of fellow New Jerseyans who also attended Clemson like me. And while we might not be perennial 10-win team if we were in the SEC West, let's say, there's something nice about being a bigger fish in a smaller pond, so to speak. I have no problem with dominating the ACC along with FSU if it gets us plenty of national attention and the ACC remains a Power 5 conference.
But South Carolina? They're not relevant nationally (I'm not counting women's hoops, sorry). I don't think anyone up here considers it a bastion of top academics. The campus is terrible, and the city isn't exactly fantastic. You say "Carolina" here, and people assume UNC. You say "USC," and people assume Southern Cal. They are literally irrelevant in almost every respect. On top of that, they play in a tough conference (albeit the weaker division), and get pummeled routinely. It shouldn't be surprising that recruits with other options, whether they be other SEC programs, or options like us, FSU, Big 10 schools, etc. would almost never choose South Carolina.

I'd probably would look at the coaches first. We have better recruiters. They work hard and travel well. Also, did you see the article on "Clemson Google" some time ago? Our coaches are already in the digital age and using it to their advantage and Spurrier recently just got his first twitter account. Also I would guess Clemson historically has a strong recruiting presence in the states where some of the best out of state recruits are such as Florida. And if they don't choose to go to Clemson, why would they go to South Carolina when they already have a better school(s) in state with better academics, aesthetics and football history than USuC? What does the coots have to sell their school; a legendary coach who is past his prime and may leave and the reputation and perception of the league strength generated by other schools?

Simply put, they are not an attractive school on or off the field. They have no normal campus and their athletic programs have an abysmal history.

When recruiting instate SC has SEC, central location, best party-school, big city life (for SC) and Spurrier to sell to recruits.
Out of state kids looking for those things can find bigger and better versions in their own states, so basically the only thing SC has to sell to those recruits is Spurrier...And think about it, the kids being recruited today were still crapping diapers back when he was actually worth a turd as a coach at UF. He's just another old geezer to them.
