than win with someone else.
Because the Tigers still came closer to the natty than a lot of other programs that pumped big money into their portal-fueled rosters and failed to even make the final 12. (Looking at you, Skerlina, Bama, Ole Miss, FSU, ... Colorado ... the list goes on.)
The great news is that Swinney has already made the adjustments most of us knew he'd make, and has the team favored to make another run in the too-early polls.
I guess we'll all have to come to grips with the new normals -- millionaire kids playing a game in what is increasingly looking like NFL Jr. football.
But if there's any saltiness left to the Clemson football program, it's Dabo Swinney. He remains the preserving agent against the rot and decay of a model turned on its head.
Go Tigers. Win it in 2025.

Totally agree.
And when he wins his next national title…doing it his way amongst the insanity around us…it will be the sweetest one yet.

Loser would say, if taken literally. Now maybe you didn’t mean it that way. Where I agree with you, I’d rather lose with Swinney than win with Day or Kiffin. But I’m sure there’s someone left out there who could win without being a ###### bag. And, as much as I love Dabo, he had become too comfortable and needed to shake things up which he’s doing. Now if he reaches a maximum where our program can’t go farther that’s different. But for the last 2-3 years we have underachieved. Some due to personnel and missing on a qb. But a lot due to coaching. I don’t think our sc loss had anything to do with not recruiting well or lack of transfers. I think we lost that game due to coaching—especially playcalling on offense and lack of tackling on defense. Now, I believe that Dabo has made some changes that needed to be made while not entirely selling out. And I’m again hopeful for the future. Go Tigers!

Win or lose, the Paw is eternal no matter who the coach is.
I was in the stands when we went 6 - 7 against USF in the Tire Bowl and I was there for every home game of Watson’s terrific run.

Of course we expect him to do that while running a clean program where players not only improve on the football field, but off of it as well. But it's not an either-or proposition.

He's always said, "God put me on this stage to win the souls of young men, but I realize to remain on this stage I also have to win football games". It's interesting how that statement cuts into two religions for most people. I believe its ok to hope and pray that he continues to excel at both.

I continue to refuse to accept that Dabo has changed. You said, 'he made the changes,' so I'm being careful about this.
Dabo always insisted that he wasn't opposed to using the portal so landing 3 guys from the portal is successful endeavor only to us. Fans who think throwing money at a problem would be crushed in their HC only got three transfers.
'He made changes,' is misconstrued by some as him finally deciding the portal is Dabo's newest best friend.
As far as the promotion of Streeter and Goodwin along with other temps I believe Dabo has done what I've seen done in the business world. Both Brandon and Wes were given opportunities to achieve due only to the voids left by their predecessors. They both knew that they were temps if they didn't perform and both saw the writing on the wall. Both were 'eyes wide open,' promotions.
In comparing Dabo's handing of personnel to the fans who want heavier use of the portal it seems that Dabo isn't one to 'trade up,' just because things are going rough. The portal fans are ready to reinvent the wheel at every bump in the road.

I mean he literally made changes. He hired Matt Luke. He fired our DC and hired a new one. He went to the portal. Not saying he changed. I'm saying he actually made changes. I don't disagree with anything you said. I do not think the portal is some holy grail. I think that you use it just like he has this year, to provide depth, maybe to fill a hole due to unexpected inury, transfer, etc. People relying on it to get a large percentage of roster at best get a year out of it and then they're gone. At worst, they quit playing on you midseason.

that leaders are called on to make from time to time. That's what I meant.
Swinney is too smart to believe that what worked in 2015, say, will work a decade later. So I give no credence to the idea that he "refuses to change." Elite coaching is nothing if not about resilience and adaptability.
Which is to say, I think we give Swinney credit that others around here patently refuse to give him, either because they dislike him personally, or they dislike his religious convictions, or because they dislike his haircut. Or all three.

Call me crazy but I enjoy winning more than losing. I would rather go 16-0 with another coach than 0-12 with Dabo.
Luckily Dabo has shown he’ll do what it takes to get us back to the top of the mountain, so this is a moot point.

than it turn into a meat grinder of a football factory. If that means losing more than we win, then I'm okay with that.
To put it another way, I have a daughter.
And what makes me grateful for men like Swinney is knowing he's turning out the sort of young men I'd be happy to welcome into my family, if ever one of them came calling.
Championship rings are nice. Men of character are better.
That's what I mean.

...it's that the new system of buying players is literally a crap shoot. Plenty of teams spent lots of money and didn't make the playoffs. It's hard to get peak performance AS A TEAM even if you get high profile players who just came in and may not be there long. Hard to refine a system of high performance working parts.
I think in the long run, Dabo's approach will be more successful than any other program. Look how close he got with a lot of bad luck.
