Batesburg Hotel

The only time the Tigers faced a 4 game skid to the coots was in 1954 .
In 1955 Frank Howard took the Tigers to Batesburg to spend the night before Big Thursday to avoid all the distractions of staying in Columbia .
The Tigers won a 28 - 14 victory to end the skid and broke the thumb off as Enright retired after the loss .
I can only wonder where the team stayed in Batesburg , but the location was said to be top secret .
Funny how my pulse drops on coot week ????

I could be wrong, but I think it was the ABLE HOUSE INN. Probably need someone else to confirm it though!

I recall that it was named the Bates Inn, owned by an influential Clemson family and located just across the street from Mr. Woodrow Taylor's Twin City Motor Company(Chevrolet & other GM products dealership). Mr. Taylor was the leader of the Lexington County IPTAY at the time. The team held their Friday practice just down "Columbia Ave" on the old B-L High School field. Bussed to Cootlumbia the next morning.
Bates Inn has been gone for many years.
