Let's not make fun of Fike. When I was at Clemson, we'd eat as quickly as we could and be in Fike under the goal by 5:30, about 2 feet from the floor. Of course, in those days, we could have sat anywhere we wanted. It was great.

Loved some pickup games in Fike in the 80s; Murray Jarmin

was a pickup game hero, kind of like the old playground stud everybody wanted on their team. Jarmin got invited to walk on to the team; can't remember if it was under Foster or Ellis.

Went there as a kid...saw Choppy Patterson, Jim Sutherland, Jim Brennan, the Mahaffeys and others. Always packed and Frank Howard and the football players would sit on the benches behind the goal..good times...Littlejohn seemed very sterile when it opened.

I absolutely agree on every point. The old "Cow Palace" was a nightmare venue for opposing teams! In contrast, LJ looked like a big empty white indoor swimming pool when it first opened up and they had no seats below the concrete wall. No one but press and players down on the floor level... Soon they realized it was a problem and added bleachers down there and the area became the "Rabble Rouser" section. Students were really rowdy in those days and were a lot like "Cameron Crazies"

agree 100%. Remember when we beat Duke and Caolina back to back in Fike. The Mahaffey brothers were awesome and pity the poor visiting player on a lay-up when he ended up in the laps of the offensive line! As students we had to stand in-line for tickets hrs before the games started. Going into Littlejohn for that first game was a real downer.

as possible to get a "good" seat. The bottom row was almost touching the court. If guys on the bottom row stuck their legs out, they would be on the court. Refs would constantly signal for fans to pull their legs off the court. Wild.

I sent a letter to DRad suggesting he incorporate as much of the Fike Field House charm into the new arena as possible. It needs to be really nice but cozy and intimate.

I remember returning to campus from Christmas break to see the Tigers play #1 ranked Duke at Fike. When we got there, the game was sold out. So we went around to the back side of Fike and climbed in through a window to see the game. Duke won but it was a very close game with the place really rocking that night. So if we build a new facility, I hope they put low windows on the backside.

I played there as a youngster for the YMCA. First time I ever saw glass backboards...made my eyes cross.
