102 at bats this weekend and 41 strike outs. If this don’t get better could be a long season.

The main thing, it was the first series, they are figuring out who’s who in real game situations & they managed to win them all to finish 3-0.
If this trend continues we will be hosting a lot!

More accurate way to chart is by plate appearances

41 K's in 138 PA's. That's 29%, and it's high. But it's also where baseball is in this age. Major league average is about 25%.
BTW, 36 walks in 3 games is pretty darn impressive

Those numbers are a little alarming but some of that is just early season links that need to be worked out and even more of that is just where the game is going.
Strikeouts are up at every level, especially college and the majors for two reasons. First We’re seeing pitchers who have a ton of data at their fingertips and kids are maximizing it and are throwing harder and with more break than ever before. I mean our Friday night guys was pumpin 95+ routinely this weekend and many of our relievers have that type of power too.
Second, the modern focus in baseball analytics is on the three true outcomes (strikeout, walk, homerun). This disproportionately favors hitting up on the ball and swinging for the fence and tends to downplay the negative effects of striking out. I too would like to see the strikeouts go down, and they will. But some of that is just where the game is.

Would there be a place for Rod Carew in today's game?

Strikeout are never good but there are times when it isn’t a big deal,
Striking out with the winning run on base in the ninth inning is always bad.
Striking out to lead off the fifth may not be a big deal.
Clutch hitting is what is really important!
In football moving the chains is a big deal In baseball moving the runners is a big deal

Another big issue this weekend was the sheer erratic nature of the Indiana pitching staff. Those poor souls Saturday afternoon (especially) were struggling to hit the broad side of a barn consistently. When they did throw one borderline some of our younger guys went fishing. We all know that Hawkins (5 K's by himself Friday) is going to strike out a lot in the early season. He's been here for 4 years now and starts off cold and warms up as the temperatures go up.
I suspect the team's approach is going to improve as they begin to see pitchers that can at least throw 60-75% strikes.

Pitching is always ahead of hitting early in the season , I’m not worried and while I’m not ready to say I think this team is poised for a Supers run, I did see a lot to be optimistic about… seemed fundamentally better that last year and looked more athletic… the hitting will come and we all know the lineup this weekend will more than likely not be what the main lineup is 3/4 into the season

Let's see how they do as the season goes along. Strikeouts have been a major problem the last few years. If the trend continues then there's a problem. Strikeouts can be tolerated if you are hitting homer's on a consistent basis. In the past when they ran into a great pitcher they would have 15 Strikeouts. Taking a called third strike needs to improve as well. Hopefully this will be a breakout season for this team.

They strike out a lot? Simply getting primed for the majors.

So do you happen to know many times the opposing batters struck out? I mean 3-0 is 3-0 .Would you rather have been 0-3?

Too many of the strikeouts were with men on base in scoring position. Brewer is the leadoff guy and he’s swinging at horrible pitches outside the zone. Brewer’s job is to set the table for the power behind him. I have to think he falls to the spot Teodosio batted from in the order. Cooper looks to be the hit to all fields guy, and seems likely to become the leadoff hitter. It will be interesting to see how Lee adjusts the lineup as everyone gets settled in.

That's why they are scoring runs. Aggressive at the plate. That-my friend- is a GOOD thing!
