I read one and let years pass between the next. Usually pretty intense, so just one at a time for me.
Most authors I’ll read their books in at least pairs to adjust and enjoy writing styles.
Which one are you reading/finish?

Definitely intense!
I think I'll pick up Lords of Discipline next. Unfortunately, I saw Santini at the movies, which usually ruins the book.

I recall reading Prince of Tides (Maybe Great Santini?) in 1990 and there is a scene where a seal gets eviscerated by a caged Tiger and the line went something like this; "When a seal plays Dixie on the horns, watch out for Tigers...". It was just the irony of the whole scene playing out in my head. Fell off the couch laughing. What a master writer...such talent. One minute you have tears in your eyes from the violence and anger his characters experience and the next you have tears rolling down your face from the joy they experience. Amazing talent.

His description of the marsh in POT was spot on. Great writer, and sorely missed.
"I would say, 'Breathe deeply,' and you would breathe and remember that smell for the rest of your life, the bold, fecund aroma of the tidal marsh, exquisite and sensual, the smell of the South in heat, a smell like new milk, ##### and spilled wine, all perfumed with seawater.”
