Are we cooked at WR if AW0 turns pro and Randall transfers?

We're already losing Stellato and I wouldn't necessarily describe T. Brown or Wesco as "durable" at this point in their career. A couple of injuries in Camp next year and we won't have much of a group at all.

Antonio would be a big loss that warrants a portal replacement.

Would you suggest going great guns after NC State portalling WR K.C. Concepcion if AW0 heads off the the NFL?

The hard part is that AW0, if he is considering the NFL, might not decide whether to announce his decision to depart until after we win the National Championship 😉? By then, we’d have missed out on most of the portal WR prospects, wouldn’t we?

Imagine if we lose Cade and Vizzina as well. Then you add the chance that Peter Woods transfers. Maybe all of our rb's decide to quit? Then Dabo might decide to focus on Pickleball. I am not feeling good about things.

Randall has been hurt -or- not fully recovered from injury to his legs / feet since arriving here.

Who knows what he’s got in his tank if he ever … EVER … has some luck re avoiding injury?

Randall and Stellato were vying for the WR with the worst injury luck. Stellato had one additional year + a RS year to work through it. I sure wish that we’d have had the chance to RS Adam Randall back in 2022. Unfortunately, our WR group was so weak (Antonio Williams surprisingly showed up in campus as a star, and Beaux Collins … yikes! … was our 2nd best option). Given that circumstance, I don’t blame the coaches for playing A.Randall mmediately.

He's not going anywhere. I doubt Randall does either, though he may.

With NIL money and his size and health issues, I would think another year for AW to get bigger and stronger with a 4th year QB, experienced Oline and some good young wide receivers to help him avoid double teams, his opportunity will be a good one here next year to create value and improve his chances for success in the NFL.

AW is definitely one that can help himself with one more year imo. He also will be getting paid while at Clemson. He is doing fine I am sure.

did you see the recruiting rankings? its a two conference league anyway..we dont

have the resources to compete. The ACC belly flopped their TV negotiations a while back and we're circling the toilet bowl.

Fair question, but as others said, another year in our system (with an ever-improving Cade) HELPS AW0 a lot. He's got a shot at the next level, if he stays healthy.

Stellato showed flashes, but not ones we can count on. Randall showed fewer flashes than Stellato, so losing him (other than depth) doesn't hurt tremendously.

Also, if Hanafin and Kelley can get playing time (as talented as we hear they are), I have to believe they could outperform what we got from Stellato and Randall.

As an aside, I hate posting negative things about an active player (Randall). The kid has stayed in the system and (from what we hear) put in the work. I'd love to see him stay and have a great final year (similar to Cornell Powell).

Hanafin was moved to the defensive side of the ball. So we can't count him unless he moves back.

AW0 would be a mid to late round draft pick so not sure it makes sense for him to leave unless he's ready to move on. You throw the bank at a guy like him with NIL money.

As for Randall, you keep hoping the potential is there but not sure how big of a loss it really is other than depth. He just finished his 3rd year on campus and really isnt any better now than when he first got here...at least on the field production/contributing. we need the body and hope for the best, but if he transfers that is what it is....go be average somewhere else.

Antonio Williams cant go pro yet, besides we have TJ Moore, Wesco, and 3rd year t Brown. we are doing good.

Antonio Williams is finishing up his third season. He was our best WR as true Fr. in 2023 and RS’d (due to injury) in 2023.

Re: Are we cooked at WR if AW0 turns pro and Randall transfers?

Dec 4, 2024, 2:56 PM

Well, we've got a lot of dead weight in the WR room that hasn't developed at all in Tink and Noble. Ronan has been switched to the other side of the ball, Randall has issues staying healthy, and Brown we have no idea what version of Brown we get (Last year, or early this year). Better hope AW stays, or we'll be relying on guys with no production, or injury issues to compliment Wesco and Moore.

Re: Are we cooked at WR if AW0 turns pro and Randall transfers?

Dec 4, 2024, 8:54 PM

Way too early to classify Tink as dead weight. He’s currently a RS freshman.

No argument that our WR group would be considerably weaker if A.Williams were not catching passes for us.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Williams is probably at his peak as far as the draft goes...

Dec 4, 2024, 7:37 PM

I can't see his numbers going up with Wesco and Moore as sophomores and a healthy Tyler Brown. Scouts have said he's one of the better route runners to come out of Clemson, hope he remains though-

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Williams is probably at his peak as far as the draft goes...

Dec 4, 2024, 9:00 PM

A.Williams has nothing to worry about as far as getting fewer targets next year, despite the presumed development of both Wesco and Moore.

Great WRs help the offense extend drives (get first downs). A great WR is a force multiplier that actually helps the stats of the other WRs.

If A.Williams has another 1,000 year receiving yards total next year (this implies that he will get another 200+ yards receiving over the next two games 😁), then all three of Wesco, Moore, and Brown will also have career years in yardage.
