But I’m reading it like this. Dabo did the usual decent boss thing where he says “I have to let you go but if you want I’ll be glad to say that you’re leaving by your choice”. Based on the tone of the two press releases, I suspect Hall took that offer, and Austin rejected it.

1. Played at Alabama with him 2. Relative of former Alabama teammate 3. Former player w/ legit coaching experience 4. Former player 5. Inspired hire of best candidate available
Austin was down the list from Hall.

Interesting thought. I hadn't considered it but your reading makes sense.

I guess it could also be based on where they are in their careers. You can sell the "long term goals" thing with a 50 year old with quite a bit of time in the program and some very talented DEs under his watch. That;s harder to do with a 2 year young guy who is obviously failing in every aspect of his job.
It might also be a message to the staff or to recruits. Recruits might have loved Hall. They obviously didn't love TA.

It was odd that the two were drastically different in presentation.

We'll probably never know the real story but I'd be happy to make something up and cite a fake source if you guys would like. I mean, my Mange board chops aren't very polished these days but I'm certainly willing to try if that helps the cause!

told me that TA was going to be retained until he mentioned the possibility of reallocating the backup holder and third string kicker scholarships to bring in additional linemen.
Don't feel bad for him though. His buyout will be paid in full, in Paw Points, and his employer retirement contributions (IPTAY priority reports) have vested. We take care of our own.

I think Hall, who coached some #### good DEs from 2018 to this year. Murphy, Henry, Thomas, and the 2019 D-line was good too. Lots of high level sack defenses, etc. Even if the DE's aren't getting all the sacks, they are containing the edge to allow others to do so.
From reading his statement, it sounds more to me like Hall has either lost the coaching fire or has family stuff keeping him from being 100% there. Lots of mentions of his family in both Dabo and Hall's statements.
I think Austin just got fired.

Dabo texted them both to meet with him Thursday morning.
Hall immediately called Dabo and they met at chicfila that night. Over a shared peppermint milkshake they talked and cried and hugged it out. Dabo promised to put out calls for him, talked him into the opportunity he had.
Austin showed up drunk 30 minutes late for the meeting and proceeded to drop trou and take a dump on Dabo's desk.

He comes from a proudly naval family with ties to Camden - one of the greatest towns on God’s green earth. Dabo wanted him to gracefully bow out, and he declined, forcing Dabo to man-up and fire him. TA will be a-okay. Best of luck, young man!

I see it a bit differently. I think Austin was 1st wanting the buyout which he wouldn't have gotten had he resigned after receiving the offer from Dabo. Dabo didn't really have to justify the firing to anyone so it worked to satisfy those of us who have blamed two years of football torture on Dabo's hiring from within.
Hall wanted gone and Dabo understood.

A little surprised it was before the bowl game/christmas but that may just be how the cycle is.
