The punting game doesn’t work very well for us. I think we’ve returned 2 punts for a TD since the Spiller/Ford era. Humphries vs Louisville 2014 and Mcloud vs ncst 2017. I cant recall but a few bad “shanked” type punts vs us. It seems someone every week for the past 5 years always asks this same type question and I don’t have an answer. Just a curse I guess. Or maybe we don’t put much emphasis into it in practice/recruiting.

Seems like there is no pressure on the punter. They surely kick better when under no stress to get the ball off.

We drop back to set up a return, but usually fair catch because the punter is back there all alone booming it. Need pressure.

I swear it seems that for a decade at least, we have run into punters who can flip the field with 55+ yarders at critical times. Seems like at least once a game a kid unleashes a moonshot down inside the 10 right at the time we are about to put the pedal down on someone. You could throw in the 50 yard FGs we have against us too for good measure. If we had another Hatcher like punter and Gardocki like kicker we would be so loaded it would be stupid.
