I'm an importer/exporter. I really want to quit the exporting though so I can focus on the importing. My wife thinks differently and says the exporting is just as important as the importing.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Huh.

Jan 4, 2017, 9:57 AM

I always thought you were an architect.

ringofhonor-rhtig.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I do now

Jan 4, 2017, 8:42 AM

I was an engineer out of Clemson, ended up joining the National Guard shortly before 9/11.

After my first deployment, I went back into engineering for about 2 years, then had an opportunity to work for the Nat'l Guard full time and took it. Haven't looked back since, and have been a federal mooch...I mean, employee, for 9+ years.

I'm currently in an administrative position. Sort of a HR thing...for the Army.

Project Manager and Estimator.

Jan 4, 2017, 9:17 AM

Meh.

badge-ringofhonor-clemsonsteve02.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I enjoy it

Jan 4, 2017, 9:20 AM

I build websites and mobile applications geared towards a specific business goal and improving conversion rates. Basically, I get to be creative and nerdy while helping my company generate more leads and make money.

It's cool. I have a marketing background but love design/UX, branding and coding so it's a nice fit and it pays well if you know how to sell yourself as not just a website builder but as an architect of the digital marketing/conversion funnel.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Digital marketing/conversion funnel?

Jan 4, 2017, 9:22 AM

I cannot WAIT to use that on my next conference call.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgbadge-ringofhonor-19b.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not unlike the sales funnel,

Jan 4, 2017, 9:25 AM

but my job is just to get people to the sales person. I don't give a crap if the sale is made or not.

A "conversion" in my world is not an actual sale, but a phone call, webform submission etc. That used to be different, but I'm not in the eCommerce business anymore.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Building squeeze pages?***

Jan 4, 2017, 11:49 AM [ in reply to I enjoy it ]

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Automotive industry litigator.

Jan 4, 2017, 9:21 AM

For example: A new car built by my company leaves somewhere traveling at 60 mph. The rear differential locks up. The car crashes and burns with everyone trapped inside. Now, should we initiate a recall? Take the number of vehicles in the field, A, multiply by the probable rate of failure, B, multiply by the average out-of-court settlement, C. A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don't do one.

It is stressful AF sometimes, but I work in Gov't so I have to remind myself that no matter how much I slack off, it will be hard to get fired.

I dread work everyday, but I dreaded it MORE when I was working in Engineering Consulting. I actually liked my Consulting job in Charlotte, but the travel and weekend work was too much for Family Time.

Psychologist in private practice. I have a great gig.

That said, I didn't figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up until I was in my 30s and was not able to fully do it until well into my 40s.

Wish I'd just found a way to get rich at age 27 and been done with it.

Yep, after Clemson I spent three months as a PM.

Jan 4, 2017, 10:38 AM

When back to being a sheetrocker and being a commercial general contractor as a hobby. There's nothing like looking back every day, every week and year after year seeing what you've accomplished. After retirement I build a 5000sf house for a friend with my hand and a couple other craftsmen.

Looking back I have no regrets, other than sitting on my butt in an office for those months, on my work.
