Why not an 8 team playoff...5 Champs + 3 Highest BCS Teams

Last year would have been LSU, OK State, Oregon, Wisconsin, Clemson, Alabama, Stanford, and Arkansas.
LSU-Clemson Stanford-Oregon
OK State-Arkansas Alabama-Wisconsin
For execs making so much money, this is a fairly easy solution. It solves everyones issues.

As other posters have said, I guess it just makes too much sense.

Good, as long as we have no 3 loss conference champs.

3 to 4 loss teams have no place in the NC. This is college football where the WHOLE season matters, not just stumbling into the playoffs and getting hot.

IS the best team in Football at that point in time. It goes with the saying "what have you done LATELY".

but college football has long been the only sport where every single game mattered. Once you say it's just the conference champions(no matter their win/loss record) and a few "at large" teams you diminish the long storied history of the sport.Every single game of the season will not matter as much. James Madison beating VT will not take them out of the picture. App State beating Michigan will not take them out and it should.

Since when did every game matter in College football? When Bama got beat at home last season it didn't seem to matter. When Auburn was left out of the NC the 12 games they played didn't matter. When LSU got into the national title with 2 losses they didn't matter.
The only time every game matters is when you are making excuses about why people didn't get in. You will never make every game matter. If that were the case then only undefeated teams should be in contention for the national title.
What is important is for the regular season to remain important. That means you earn your spot through a conference title or a spectacular season. If it just so happens several teams in a conference are equally matched, you have to work that much harder to come out the champion and earn your spot.

Bama just got lucky that their 1 loss didn't matter as much OS's did.

to be ranked in top 12 at least if 8 teams. We didn't deserve to get into an 8 team playoff last year.

Agree with this. Some sort of metric (whether the BCS or the Coaches poll) would need to be in place to ensure that you didn't have a team that won their conference by default (with 3+ losses). If you win your conference and you're in the top 12 or 16, sure you get a chance. But last year's Clemson team didn't belong in the national championship conversation (due almost entirely to the NCST game).

2005 FSU 8-4 ACC champs = no place in NC

Any other team from any other conference with that type of season would not be NC material.
