Any news or comments on how head set communications went?

Sep 3, 2024, 10:54 PM

Believe the QB and the D leader both had radio communication with a staff member.

And, could this staff member be on the sidelines or chose to be in the booth?

What knows you?

Seems like it went well minus a couple of TOs we burned trying to make UGA jump offsides on some 4th and 1s on our half of the field.

I am sure they practiced with those things all spring and summer.

Considering the stage and first game of the year, it looks like it went very well. Wonder if they still have the signs in a box on the sideline if comms go down as a back-up?

If it has batteries, it can fail.

I can't wait till we play NC St and see if Dorian complains about our use of the headsets like he did the laptop computers.

Apparently Klub couldn't hear a thing.

Something I noticed at least... it seems that every time we were on defense Georgia would wait until close to 15 seconds left and then audible to a new formation. I never noticed Barret Carter changing the play so I'm wondering if that was an oversight from the coaching staff on what to do in that situation. If we are solely relying on headset comms and can't signal from the sideline then Carter basically becomes the defensive coordinator for 15 seconds every play.

Someone smarter than me can tell me if that was the case but I'm curious to see if App State catches on and does something similar. Either way I think by the end of the year most teams will have figured out a good system that works.

The way I heard it explained...

The coach(es) can communicate with the QB or defender until 15 seconds (maybe 10 can't remember) left on the play clock. So that would explain UGA audibles. Not sure how that is controlled, but if there is some mechanism in place, it could explain why we didn't audible to a different D alignment.

I would think that you can't rely just solely on that. Even if there aren't any glitches in the system, I would still think you need some other ways to communicate with the players.

It appears to make it easier to call screen plays.***

UGA said they were able to hear our communications loud and clear during the second half.

There was a headset glich in the Bama - WKY game. WKY came out and said their headsets weren't working, so Bama, by rule, had to turn theirs off.

Now, you no longer need to use signals from the sideline, but you still have to prepare to use signals from the sideline in case the other teams electrics club isn't up to par.
