Is a good friend of my oldest Grandson. He is a good kid and made a mistake at 12 years old after watching some movie and having a 3 second video of him and his friend is wearing a white hood to play like the characters. I know it looks bad but it was about a movie they watched. My Grandson said that he talked to Caleb's Mom and that he is getting threats of all kinds. He stopped playing football to pursue his dream. I think a good kid that has made a mistake at 12 should get a second chance instead of being canceled like so many today. Do we really want to try and ruin some teenagers life over mistakes he made as a child. He is no longer on American Idol because of this and he was a top five finalist.

It is hard to believe this country has stooped to this level. For Christ sakes the kid was 12....and watched a movie. I was in the military for 22 years and love this country dearly, things are really going south. So I must scream.....HE WAS A TWELVE YEAR OLD FREAKING KID!!!!!

Apparently there are a lot of black people who are convinced that the other kid's parents are full bore KKK, because there could be no other possible explanation for the "hood" he was wearing. Even though Caleb's mother offered what I found to be a very reasonable explanation, that the kids were imitating characters from a horror movie, they believe the mother is lying and just covering for her Caleb, as they believe any mother would do. They are convinced that klansmen and racists are lurking around every corner, and there could be no other explanation for the kid in the mask/hood, and that Caleb has to pay a price for hanging out with a klansman. They simply will not have it any other way.

life that there's some faceless, nameless, racist boogeyman who's out there to get the black folks simply for the color of their skin. When you grow up in a milieu like that (which is perpetrated by the left, specifically through news and social media, as well as the race hustlers), then when you see anything that remotely resembles someone from past racist situations, you immediately jump to conclusions and ignore all the facts/evidence/context/truth, because this MUST be what they have been warning you about all along.
Honestly, I feel sorry for these folks because their anxiety and depression has to be off the charts, and they refuse to see that the cause of it is almost completely manufactured to keep them toeing a certain line. Maybe they refuse because victimhood is now openly celebrated and encouraged, which baffles me to no end.

Racism is a quick, simplistic, extremely satisfying explanation for people who simply can't handle the much more complex reality of causes of the problems that dispropotionately effect minorities, particularly African-Americans, in America. The problem is, as satisfying as it is to have that boogeyman, it does almost nothing to address or correct the real problems.

I believe he does deserve a second chance, but you saying at 12 he didn't understand that was wrong is bs. I'm 14 and at 9 I learned that the kkk and stuff like that is bad. The video was probably taken out of context, but it shouldn't have happened, and never been recorded.

I’m so sorry that he is having to go through this. He was being a kid playing around with friends with no racist or hateful intentions, yet that’s what ignorant and agenda-driven people have twisted it into.
This is similar to the Jeopardy contestant, who was accused of showing a supposed white supremacy symbol with his hands after his third win. He was attacked and smeared online. Turns out he was just showing 3 fingers for his third win.
