when The Pope came to Cootlumbia in '89(?) his route in the Popemobile was right down the street from my domicile.

So I walked down to see him go by. Coulda touched the Popemobile as he rode by waving and blessing everything in sight.

Didn't help that city much. Or me, to be honest.

The blurry proof...That's Whaley's Mill in the background for anybody who knows Columbia. He was on Assembly St on his way to Willie-Brice Stadium.

Pope John Paul II visited Columbia, South Carolina, on September 12, 1987, as part of a larger US tour. He held an ecumenical service at the University of South Carolina's Williams-Brice Stadium, where he also addressed the student body.
