Do you feel like this has the potential to be a 1-2 year role and he departs?

If we win big this season, he’s gone.
If we are close we might hold on to him for another season especially if his brother has a great season too.

How many years did we keep BV? People thought he wouldn’t stay long? If not for OU opening he’d probably still here.
BV had a history of blooming where he’s planted. He also had the opportunity to coach his sons while at Clemson. Riley is younger and has a history of moving often when it’s in his best interest to move up the chain to HC. I forsee two years max. Then the keys will likely be handed to Kyle Richardson in my opinion.

Exactly. Why does the OC have to be on the job training at Clemson? You either got it or you don't. Go out and hire another big name proven one.

My guess as well. Looking at his resume he moves quite often. Hopefully he will be choosy on the next opportunity and hang around a bit

in 1 - 2 years.
It's possible, I suppose, that he could turn out to be a BV-type. Where he just loves it at Clemson and is happy not having to be THE face of a program.

I can see this happening if his offense is successful. Dabo has all the money he will ever need and I’m sure is sick of the transfer portal and NIL, so I can see him hanging up coaching for some motivational speaking or charity deal.

2-3 years tops if the offense really takes off. Possibly even just this coming year if we were to win another natty, as everyone will be ready to throw huge money at him.

We can also throw huge money at him. If he is that good, why not? If it is all about the money, and we are willing to spend it, we should be able to keep him. I'm sure Dabo would like to keep him if he is successful.

If he has success, which I think he will, he will leave for a head coaching job. I think there are several variables such as how much he likes it here, relationship with co-workers, and the type of job available.
I could see him taking a similar path to BV, TE, or the Chad and waiting for a great opportunity where he can win. He's such a hot commodity with the right bloodlines, that could happen after 1 season unfortunately.

3 to 4 years at the most! He will be a HC sooner than we would like! But he will only take a post that has a good chance of success! So that may buy us a few years!

I expect there to be a few hiccups over next two years and then back to title runs. We should then see the dividends from the minor changes we've implemented to adjust to current landscape. I think Dabo pays GR very well and unless we achieve huge success right off the bat....I think GR may stay put until a big school emerges..

Good post JR and I tend to agree. People are also quick to forget sitting there watching the CU offense in the first 2 games against Troy and Wofford after Chad was hired and thinking what in the world did we hire this guy for? I suspect GR will get off to a smoother start but there will be hiccups.

I think he may be like BV where he doesn't jump at the first thing that comes along but waits for the right opportunity that fits his future aspirations.

Think it all depends on what positions come open. Don't see him leaving for say Illinois, but I do see him bolting for a Penn St. Michigan etc. type location.

Only a top job will lure him…see BV. If he is successful as expected, CDS will pay more than some midrange school would.

Already has it one Broyles trophy. Wins another at Clemson and probably a matter of time. I think he is smart enough to wait on the right job. I don’t see him leaving us to be a coach at SMU or or South Florida. Not taking a shoe at Jeff Scott. I think he will follow the BV mold and wait for a big name school. If ND has another 4 loss year they might be in the market. Soon.

I always thought there may have been a hint of him taking over at HC eventually during the process. I know we pay well, but most Broyles winners get a lot of calls for a HC position. Did TCU not try to counteroffer? I know Clemson is Clemson, but I think there was more on the table, potentially, that made Riley say yes. Dabo is a salesman, I know that.

He will get offers next year! It all depends on the situation that comes available. For the right money and situation combo - he could be gone pretty quick. As quick as his contract allows w/o penalty. Otherwise, he will sit back and wait for his HC opportunity. I think this stint at Clemson is Multi-fold: get some time around a multi-National Championship-winning coach and program #1. Then get into more high-profile games at Clemson than he could at TCU and make yourself completely irresistible to potential suitors. #3 - learn from one of the best recruiters in the business.
When Dabo got the job all I knew about him really was that; "he could recruit"! You have to get the players here. When he gets that knowledge added to what he learned at his other stops - I only see a HC job next for him.

Guess it really depends on his success here & his goals

This year will be year 12 for him as a collegiate assistant coach. He's got Broyles Award under his belt. How quick he sees himself wanting to be a HC? Having top 15 offenses at SMU & TCU definitely help the resume, along w/ helping get TCU to a CFP appearance. If he has that type of success out the gate at Clemson, best believe he'll be a hot name on next year's carousel. Also maybe he wants to take a couple years under Dabo & learn/observe how to run a program, compare & contrast that with what he's learned/observed/talked about from other coaches before he decides to take that next step.

Riley is a smart guy and I look at his move to Clemson for his motive. Simply, he believes our offense with CK is ready to go far. He knows if we make a playoff run with a great offense he is a made man. I think he is right.
