If he doesn't like the portal, then this forces him to select winner staffers. It's a win-win scenario. It provides instant accountability to his hiring choices. If he lets three staffers goes this January, he must instantly go get 3 portal guys for next year. Rinse and repeat.

There is a lot of revisionist history going on with the coaching staff. Outside of Brent Venables, it's not like it was some well-regarded staff previously.
