Am I the only one not upset over Quinn's comments?

May 27, 2016, 9:56 AM

I mean I think he is dead wrong on the abilities and future of Watson, but his point of view does have merit. We have seen QB's coming out of college who were excellent at this level but whose skillset didn't translate in the NFL.

Make no mistake being an NFL QB is a different and considerably harder task than playing (and even excelling) in college. For every Cam there are 100 RG3's and other QB's who couldn't hold up under the NFL defensive pressure.

Now then, I think Quinn is dead wrong about Watson, but I'm not going to get upset over some talking head's opinion. The NFL scouts and GM's will have their chance to review Watson during the combines and I'm confident he will get his shot to prove the dude wrong.

No reason to get upset over some talking head being wrong.

Im not upset. . Because it doesn't friken matter.

Watson gonna Watson. The nfl will nfl.

Too many hypersensative people here taking stuff personally.

Which by the way is what the media wants. Bunch of pawns.

If there's any reason to be upset, it's because it was a logical play to get a reaction out of a rabid fan base. Hits people, it's all about how many site hits you can generate.

Quinn may not even feel that way, but he and the Clemson fan base were perfect targets. That's what's so frustrating.

Haha you're overthinking this wayyy too much.***

Are there hundreds out there with 4000 yards receiving and 1000+ yards rushing in a single season in NCAA? Or is there just one?

There are zero players in NCAA history with 4000 yards

May 27, 2016, 10:10 AM

receiving and 1000+ yards rushing. The most receiving yards in a season in NCAA history is 2,060 yards by Trevor Insley (Nevada 1999).

Point being, find one guy on the field today that can be fully compared during their time in NCAA....if there was one, wouldn't there be more with 4000 passing, 1000 rushing...while having a RB that ends top 13 with over 1500 yards rushing? Since there isn't and he is the ONLY one that accomplished it in FBS history (and also broke National Championship game records as well), hard to say "his skill set won't make it"....or can Quinn show me the QB out there that did the same in NCAA that no one seems to remember?

I enjoy his bitterness over the ND loss, the lasting sting

of defeat so acute as to affect his professional judgement causing him to lash out publicly.

I don't think people are upset. I just think most find it laughable that a washed up quarterback whose game DIDNT translate to the pros is being paid big bucks to give an opinion on who is ready for the NFL and who isn't.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgmilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

one could argue that puts him in a better position

May 27, 2016, 10:14 AM

To know what skills do and don't translate to the NFL.

Again, he's wrong in my opinion, but he has way more information about being a college QB trying to make it in the NFL than any of us do.

Not upset at all, and Mariota is a prime example of

May 27, 2016, 10:14 AM

a few talking heads saying he wouldn't make it in the NFL. He's very similar to DW.

In fact, Andrew Luck may be the only one in a long time who some didn't have doubts about.

It's very tough to make it as a QB in the NFL.

One intangible that DW has over Quinn and a LOT of other quarterbacks that come into the league.....Leadership. He pretty much refuses to panic and has that drive to win every time out.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgmilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agree. And Baker Mayfield. Sounded like Dabo's comments

On the surface, I understand the thinking that dual-threat QBs rarely succeed in the NFL. I get it. I tend to think Watson is WAY underrated as a pure passer, but Brady Quinn is a moron and slaps the dual-threat label on him blindly... so be it. However, you cannot then include Seth Russell and Patrick Mahomes on your list, as those are also dual-threat college guys... who, by the way, aren't nearly as good as Watson.

THAT is what makes this comment so bass ackwards.

A QB named Boyd who many thought was a sure bet to be an NFL quarterback. How did that work out?

We will just have to wait and see. This guy has an opinion. So do I. So do you

Re: I can remember

Sad thing for Boyd was he could not even make it on a Steelers team that did not have any decent backup QB's. I hope Watson makes it but it will have no impact on whether we can repeat as ACC champs and return to the Natty so I could careless what the guy says about our QB.

I used to get personally offended by the likes of Quinn's comments until I observed the recent travesty of a story that is Tajh Boyd.

Say what you want about him, Tajh will forever be remembered as a top 5 clemson QB for the rest of all time. His numbers speak for themselves. One school of thought is that "he had Nuk & Sammy though"... Yeh, well another school of thought could just as easily be "he made Nuk & Sammy". He got the ball to them, he helped them amass ridiculous receiving yards, and in a passing-dominant league like today's NFL - that all translates to big $!

I was looking at Deshaun's numbers from last year, truly amazing. But then you start seeing that Tajh was putting up ridiculous numbers like Deshaun was last year, except 3 years in a row? Wow. Respect. And now, we're all left wondering, "what happened to Tajh Boyd?". Everyone has an opinion, professional or personal, but one truth remains - the NFL isn't promised for everyone, quarterbacks especially.

Not mad, just think it's funny

May 27, 2016, 12:52 PM

He said that DW won't translate to the NFL because he is in a spread offense. Just this past draft, the number one quarterback came from a spread offense. The number 2 pick last year was a quarterback in a spread that runs it more than us. But, because DW plays in a spread that makes Boston College's quarterback a better prospect? It's just crazy talk.
