rule on birthright citizenship. If Trump gets his way, and birthright citizenship ends, then he will have greater latitude to deport these people, as they are not citizens.
What's more interesting is who this would impact. Remember Vivek Ramaswamy? Yep, no longer a US citizen. Can be deported. Also in the crosshairs, Leon Panetta, oh, and get this, JD Vance's wife. yeah, she's on the chopping block if birthright citizenship is ended. Unless at least ONE of your parents was a US citizen, then you're not one according to Trump, simply because you were born here.

Another approach is to have the date of the SCOTUS ruling be the effective date, similar to how they stopped recognizing common law in SC.
On July 24, 2019, the SC Supreme Court ruled that common law marriage was no longer recognized in SC. BUT, the ruling means from the date or the order going forward, there is no more recognition. IF you established a common law marriage BEFORE 7/24/2019, then it can still be recognized by the courts. Just did a report on this. The effect is, over time, common law marriages fade away, versus they never were if the decision had been retroactive.
Retroactive ends ALL claims of birthright citizenship. The other approach just stops recognizing it at a set date.

Trump will get SCOTUS to agree that the prohibition on ex post facto laws doesn't apply to him either. That's what keeps you from being charged for a past action with a new law.
