Watching game in Raleigh

Sep 28, 2015, 10:34 PM

Wish I was going to the game but it is waaaaaaay out of my budget. Is there a place in the Raleigh area where Clemson alumni and fans hang out to watch games? I tried Sardi's Den on Creedmoor which is where the Triangle Alumni Club suggests but there was just a handful of people and no one interacted. New to the area and would love to meet fellow Tigers!

No one goes to The Alley anymore.

This year the Alumni Club viewings have moved to Sardi's Den on Creedmore. The unfortunate thing is that they don't really reserve a section of the restaurant for the Clemson fans, they just seat them at tables as they arrive like normal patrons, which ruins the shared experience.

Sardi's in Clemson is one of my favorite places anywhere. Sadly, the one in Raleigh just doesn't feel right. The ribs are still delicious there, but the establishment feels so sterile and generic. It's a better venue than the alley, but the location is worse and they're not really doing anything to welcome the Clemson fans or pump up the team spirit.

I tried Sardi's Den

earlier in the season and what you said pretty much sums it up. Nothing special. I went a few times in an effort to support the Clemson connection and it just lacks something. Thanks for the tip about The Alley.

Likewise, my wife and I still try to get out to the alumni club viewings to, as you say, support the Clemson connection. However, we will be down in tiger town for the ND game, but other than that if you see us Sardi's for the alumni viewings stop over and say hi. We should be easy to spot since we'll have a 6 month old in an orange car seat :)

Re: I tried Sardi's Den.. Wow, just Wow..

Sep 28, 2015, 11:48 PM [ in reply to I tried Sardi's Den ]

I can't imagine that. We have two venues in the Dallas Area and the one I've attended usually has a reserved area, and quite often expands into the main area. About the least I've seen is 7 to 10 fans, but occasionally exceeds 30...
If it's not working out at that Sardi's Den, contact the officers for discussion.

always has very well attended events. The viewing parties routinely pack the venue. I was expecting the same, or more, here in Raleigh. Thanks for sharing the update from Raleigh club. I had not seen this posted previously. Thinking I will try Sardi's one more time. I definitely want to share Saturday's beat down with fellow Tigers!

I'm still looking for.tickets to the NCSU game in Raleigh, going for sure!

Sep 29, 2015, 12:21 AM

Where are some good places to go, possibly after the game, any good cheap places to stay....what about parking?
I'm also renting out rooms in my house for home games, pretty cheap for the night or wkd (possibly a trade for a place to sleepafter the Clemson -NCSU game...?).
My house is only 3 miles from campus...just past "Paws 123 Diner" towards Seneca.
Maybe that could help for a better & cheaper gameday trip to Clemson...?

Tigers helping Tigers, Clemson that is ??

There are plenty of hotels in the area. I think if you do a little looking around at reviews online (Trip Advisor, Yelp, etc.) you should do fine avoiding any bad places. If you want to walk to the stadium, I think there's a Comfort Suites right near the stadium and a Ramada over on Blue Ridge Rd. Other than those, you'll probably have to drive. There are several hotels downtown near the convention center, and there's a good bit of nightlife and restaurants in that area on the stretch of Fayetteville St leading North up to the capitol building. There's also lots of stuff over on Glenwood Ave between Hillsborough St and Peace St. Since it's Halloween night expect it to be pretty wild on the Hillsborough St strip just across from NCSU. Students will definitely be out in costume and bar hopping and generally rabble-rousing.

Also, just a general warning about NCSU fans

Sep 29, 2015, 8:49 AM [ in reply to I'm still looking for.tickets to the NCSU game in Raleigh, going for sure! ]

They can be terrible to opposing team's fans, so just be prepared for that. Usually it's just the boisterous college-aged kids that are obnoxious and boisterous, but at the tailgates, in the stadium and down near NCSU be prepared to take a lot of verbal abuse if you're wearing Clemson gear. They are neither gracious in defeat or victory.
