Given the high praise and lofty predictions for our 2025 football team

we should expect to be one of the top 2-3 teams in the nation this year, right? Consider:
-Our QB is a Heisman frontrunner -We have three players projected to be picked in the top 10 of the 2026 NFL Draft -Our head coach has won two national championships as a coach and is the third highest paid coach in college football ($11.5 million/year) -We have one of the highest budgets for assistant coaches in the country, including extremely well-compensated coordinators. -We have among the best facilities in college football -We have among the best fans in college football
Plus, our path to a high ranking is about as favorable as it gets, since we play a relatively weak conference schedule and have our biggest nonconference game at home (LSU)
Assuming we stay relatively healthy, there should be no excuse for failing to be one of the top few teams in the nation, right?

The ROY bus was sort of cute when we were ascending to elite program status.

Now it's stupid.
We have been to the mountaintop. We spend big bucks at Clemson to be elite, which now includes players getting notable NIL deals. They get treated like celebrities, with high expectations placed upon them, and they can do their part by rising to the occasion and playing lights out.
Trying to create a false narrative of disrespect or underestimation shouldn't be needed. If they can't handle the expectations and the praise, they aren't cut out for this.

Maybe you’re just trolling, but if you’re serious then we’ll need to agree to disagree
Why… If you were building a basketball TEAM I agree that Wilt is a better athlete and more physical presence, but there isn’t one rational person that takes him before Jordan

Judge, you might just be correct about The Stilt. I also feel Larry Bird was a better all around player than MJ. Better passer, better rebounder, better pure shooter. MJ was just a freak athlete who could run and jump like a deer and had a heart for winning like no other. Mj ranks #2 on my list behind Bird.

Yes. Missing the playoff would be a massive disappointment. I'd go as far to say a losing our 1st playoff game would be disappointing.
Outside of injury, this a top 5 team in the country.

I am hoping that Allen will transform our defense. The talent is there, they just needed better coaching and development. I believe he will provide that.
I also want to see our offense take that next step. We were better last year, but we also padded our stats against some really bad defenses. Cade needs to take that next step, and so do our receivers. Running back is still a big question mark. How will our offensive line do?
Lots of questions, but I feel really good overall about where we are going into the season.

What is the “next step” that Cade needs to take? If he simply repeats his numbers from last year he will be one of the best QBs in the country. It’s going to be pretty hard to significantly improve in those stats. But of course, anything short of perfection will be the opportunity you seek so badly to bad mouth the football program.

For a guy who constantly accuses others of putting words in your mouth, you are pretty good at that yourself. I never said he couldn’t play better and I always hope our teams and players will. You said “Cade needs to take that next step“. Most times when that phrase is used there are significant deficiencies that need to be addressed and significant improvement is needed. I simply asked what you consider “that next step” that he “needs to take” to be. And as usual you have no appropriate response so all I can conclude is that you are trolling again. As usual.

A quick look at Cades QB ratings tell the story.

In our opener against Georgia, his QBR was 96.3. In our loss to Louisville, it was 99.0.
Contrast that to games against App State (QBR 277.9) and Citadel (240.8). Those are big differences.
He had a great year last year, but his performances didn’t feel elite in the big moments. I didn’t have the same confidence in Cade as I did in Deshaun and Trevor. Hopefully that will change this year.

“Take that next step”, “padded our stats”? Did you watch the playoff game? The offense already took the next step. They also did it with Mafah getting 2 carries. To me the only offensive question is consistency. If we play like that against all of our opponents this year, this could be an all-time great offense.
Defensively, I will be shocked if we are not noticeably better.
Personally, I will be disappointed if we are not a clear title contender. To me, the only things that could prevent that is 1) special teams/punting and 2) depth. I think this team is not as deep as our previous title teams, on defense particularly.

Well we had a weak D last year, but we added a new DC and 2 new portal defensive players. So we will see there. I think any finish outside of the top 10 coupled with a loss to the coots would be a letdown season. Anything above that is a job well done.

As long as we stop the run I think this team will be elite and in serious contention for a national championship appearance. I’m not worried about the offense. If Cade plays like he did in the 2nd half vs. Texas we will be hard to beat. Our downfall was not stopping the run and having no run game late in the season.

A lot of "ifs" in there. Let's not fall into the same trap of speculation seen as reality. Lot of work to be done. If the D shows to be no better against the run, all speculation will be moot.

I did not create the Heisman hype, national championship contender hype, 3 picks in the top 10 hype, or 5 picks in the top 20 hype.
That is coming from journalists, analysts, and others who make predictions for a living.
Are you saying that these predictions are unfounded, and we shouldn't expect to be really good this year?

I said you tee up selected comments so you can come back later and claim underperformance, complacency, stubbornness, and whatever other criticism of the football program that you can conjure up. You are setting the table for later, apparently hoping for an opportunity to take shots at the football program as many others have noted on here and as you have clearly made a habit of doing in the past.
I think we have a chance to be really good this year. But I also know that hype, coach’s salaries, facilities, and predictions from “experts” don’t guarantee results. Just ask Sheddeur Sanders. That’s why we play the games.

After all, we support the program accordingly and have shown that we are capable of it.
I’m tired of losing to the best teams on our schedule. Beating up on weak ACC teams doesn’t mean much when we can’t beat the SEC and are nowhere near being among the best teams in the country anymore.

season and using it to set-up a anti-Dabo gotcha is just a sad, sad way to spend time here. I wonder, if you went back in time and let a couple of perceived BB slights go, if you would have avoided this spiral. Guess we'll never know.
I for one...as much as I enjoy the S-show that College Football has become...will sit back and take in a potential barn burner against LSU to start the season. We'll see how we look. I'm optimistic based on the returning talent, the development we've seen and the coaching changes (especially coming off of a playoff appearance and ACC Championship), but of course you never know how it goes. That's sports.

LOL this is so utterly transparent. I think folks are onto your schtick because its clear how your OP is neither trying to get consensus nor actually give your personal thoughts and expectations.
What is it with you and your cadre of minions that you are so desperate to get people to give you "receipts" so you can litter the board during the season with snarky troll bait like "Well what I learned on TNet was..." at the first negative thing that occurs.

and particularly Dabo to fail, it is now gone. This post is a clear effort to have you on record so, if things do not go well, you have an "I told you so" in your back pocket. That is truly pathetic! Your "right?" at the end of a couple of sentences is not excitement for the possibilities for this year's team, nor is it consensus building around your points, rather it is laced with your hope that failure comes so you can ramp up your anti Dabo rhetoric while building excuses for BB in case basketball flops.

I do care about having a reasonable expectation for the upcoming football season though.
To be honest, I am a bit surprised to see us being mentioned as a legitimate national title contender. I expect us to be better than last year, but the jump to truly being elite this year seems like a big one. However, if I am warranted in thinking that this could likely be a 2016 or 2018 type of year, then I will certainly get on board.
Rather than resorting to personal attacks, perhaps you can weigh in on the topic at hand:
Do you think we are one of the best few teams in the country this year, and have a legitimate chance to be national champions? Yes or no?
This isn't complicated.

Nothing in the OP contains your thoughts on the season
They are in order
A question A sports reporters thought A sports reporters admitted way too early mock draft A statement of fact An assumption of fact A fact A fact A backhanded opinion on SOS A question
All you came up with above, after making several contrarian statements was we might be better than last year but not elite. Yet you failed to define elite, which obviously isn’t elite in your definition.
How about a W/L and postseason prediction?

Yes, I think Clemson has a legit chance to be national champions this year……. They have to take it one game at a time, stay healthy, get better each week… there is no reason to think they can’t at those point in season, just have to play it out….. focus, stay hungry and humble…

Brad is underperforming . . .
Brad is paid $3.5 Million to lead 13 players . . . which equates to $269,230.00 per player.
Dabo is paid $11.5 Million to lead 85 players . . . (which doesn’t count walkons or the soon coming increase roster size) . . . which equates to $135,294.00 player.
Brad should have 4 National Titles by now . . . or . . . we need to increase Dabo’s compensation to $22,884,615.00 to match Brad’s.
This is the kind of reasoning you spew daily. 🤦🏼♂️

On paper, yes......
That being said we were very lucky on the injury bug during our stretch between 2015-2019. Luck always plays into the equation.
And you have to play the game....
Even though JK01 takes a lot of heat on this board for pointing out problems with the football program, and has largely been fair in his statements, Dabo has responded to everything and has found his way in the landscape we see now.
The friends and family hires he made the hard decisions to part ways with his players he promoted to premature coaching positions and has made home run hires with OC, DC, and OL.
He has leveraged NIL to keep guys here while still not leading with it in the recruiting process focusing on culture first and he has been absolutely correct on how he did it. We compensate our players and even are using the portal.
Dabo started adapting back when he started having official visits in the off-season about 7-8 years ago and offering guys earlier than he has in the past.
We can all get along b/c there is no doubt, we all want the same thing. For all Clemson athletic programs to perform well and I believe across all sports, the state of the athletic department is very very strong and I am proud to be a Clemson Tiger alum and fan.
Dabo has stood by his players even when it was obvious they weren't performing at the level they should focusing on DJU and CK in his sophomore year. That's a coach you want to play for. He is selective at calling position groups or players out publicly, but I am proud how he will stand behind his QBs even if we all know they aren't getting it done. Thats how it should be.... He stood behind Kelly when TL was waiting in the wings until he couldn't anymore. He always had DJUs back, and he always had CKs back even after the Duke game.

First year DC, unproven RBs, meh O line, a QB who still is just a game manager, & a head coach who still won't butt out of calling dumb, drive killing trick plays at critical points in the game. I'm not seeing the justification for the hype. Fans are being setup for another let down. This is probably a 2 or 3 loss during the regular season FB team.

Clemson will be favored in every game we play this season.
If we lose any game it will be an upset
Now that may change , especially in the event we lose our opener.
If that occurs then the table will be reset in accordance with margin of loss.
That being said , it is extremely difficult to go undefeated. The difference is usually determined by the intangibles ( injury , turnovers ) etc.
You also have to add a little luck in the mix as well.
We have done it in the past and this year it appears all the stars are in alignment again for a special season.
Let's Go Tigers!

It is a wonderful thing to be great.
Perhaps one day we'll have a reason to say of the basketball team that:
One our starting five is a Wooden award frontrunner - we have three players projected to go top 10 NBA draft - our head coach has won two national championships and (as a result) is now the third-highest paid coach in college basketball - A generous budget (made possible by those national basketball titles) for recruiting the nation's best assistants and coordinators - One of the best facilities in college basketball - Some of the best fans in college basketball
