In honor of Swimmintiger's new jahb, GITT with your first 3

jobs. And make it a MEGATHREAD....or not.
Job 1 (if this counts) 1998 - I was 15, I spent a whole summer watching two boys aged 6 and 9. Pay was $75/week.
Job 2 - Burger King 1999, started out at $5.15/hr. Mainly worked summer + 8 hrs/wk to afford dates. Maybe the hardest job I ever had. Got a sweet 20% discount. I could make a whopper in 19 seconds.
Job 3 - Worked at a metal fab shop in 2000. Mainly swept the floors and made deliveries in summer. 40 hrs a week and made $8.50/hr. LOADED

1. Winn Dixie - quit when they didn't put the schedule up in the right place.
2. Office Depot - they paid like $8.25 even in 1998. Let me drive a forklift at 17.
3. Selling Sprint Phones at the Circuit City in Anderson. This was pretty much a failure for me.

got me out of bed when they had a field hand lay out of work, then...
Job 1: Cutting wooden stakes that go on flat beds in a warehouse, stack on a pallet. Made $13 per pallet. You could do maybe 4-5 pallets a day. Warehouse manager is now my father in law.
Job 1.5: Working with dude's wife teaching swim lessons. $10 an hour back when minimum wage was $4.96 per hour.
Job 2: Freshman year of college, golf course. Cutting grass, raking traps, pissing off the old people. Golf course eventually went belly up not long after I left. $4.96/hr.
Job 3: Freshman year of college: Sporting goods store. Sucked. I think minimum wage went to 5.25 or something like that.
Job 4: Hardware store. Worked there the remainder of college. 7.25/hr.
Then into my career as assistant to the assistant pe teacher.

But he pretty much paid for my college through working there.
his daughter was straight smoke though.
She would work the register during the summer when she was out of school.
Came in to work one day with a mid drift and a mini mini mini skirt. Unfortunately she was always just a little too young.
She got fake #### and move to Tennessee after school.

Job 1: 9 to 15 years old. Paper boy delivering The Washington Post. Saved enough spending money to get me through freshmen year at Clemson.
Job 2: 17 years old. Worked at a sports shop in the local mall. Best part of the job was getting discounted baseball gear. Worst part of the job was the day before deer hunting season opened selling/filling out hundreds of licenses or fitting running shoes/sneakers on fat chicks.
Job 3: 18-21 years old. Summer work delivering swimming pool chemicals. Heavy lifting but we worked half day and spent the rest of the day by one of the pools checking out tail and drinking the occasional beer. Great gig for a college kid. Good coin too.

1. linthead - made $1.73/hour iirc - at a carpet yarn mill (did this two summers in high school) 2. tutor for Clemson athletic department - worked for the infamous Col. Robbins - hard #### for sure - $2 hour, I think - and the pay was the same whether I was tutoring one or five at the same time. 3. Grad assistant. Don't remember the pay (maybe reduced tuition?) but did not do much other than grade tests

smart but lazy.
Loved tutoring the soccer players - Nigerian mostly - very smart but vocabulary was hard for them.
Had two linemen pass a 400 level course where the professor failed 10 graduating seniors. We partied after that!

1. Working the grill at Del Taco, steak and cheese burritos were awesome
2. Combo job of screen printing t-shirts and stuff AND acid dipping and sandblasting racin' radiators for racecars
3. Afterglow restaurant in Seneca, moved from dishwasher to salad maker to saute chef, should have made it a career
Not sure if order of jobs is correct and I have no idea how much money I made

Job #1 - Worked cutting neighborhood yards from the time I could operate a weedeater until we moved out of town in high school. Usually $15-25 per yard, split with my brother, 4-5 yards a week in the summers.
Job #2 - City of York, SC Parks & Rec - Minimum wage - Cut grass at the local parks in town. Boss was a terrible guy and I wished great tragedies on him. Unfortunately he was killed when tree fell on him while he was biking a few years later. Oops.
Job #3 - I watched a couple kids one summer for $85/week. Not sure when, but I could certainly drive. Maybe this was job #2 before the City of York one.
Job #4 - Civil Engineering Intern for a family friend. I was his 2nd employee and worked summers, spring break (sometimes) and Christmas during college. I think I started at $10/hr. Probably crept up to $15/hr.
Job #5 - Flower delivery in Clemson, SC for Greenleaf flowers. Made $7.00/hr or so and got to ride around with my dog riding shotgun. Fun job.

Summer of 86 - Construction worker/chief ditch digger/sheet rock hanger - in great shape and had a great tan. Summer of 87-92- Runner - Got fat, ran errands, delivered crap, took crap. Summer of 92-94- Trial Assistant - This was fun - would go with the litigators to trial and be in charge of getting everything the courtroom when needed primarlily, but the senior partner would wake up at 3AM and decide he wanted an exhibit of a living room wall (or something) and I would have to go buy the stuff to make one the next day. Barely slept for two to three weeks of trial, but usually got a decent bonus at the end, plus tickets to some event.

1. Pizza shop tossing the dough. lasted from junior year of high school til I went to college 2. Summer between freshman/sophomore year I worked for an industrial cleaning company. #### was nasty. cleaned all up all kinds of crap (literally). 3. Summer between sophomore/Junior year I worked for my wifes (then girlfriend) mom at the local hospital doing data entry. Most boring job i've ever had. I actually held this job up through 2014/15 (but only worked the summer of '12).

I should elaborate on Job #2.
We were responsible for cleaning out the Dupont plant in Florence after it closed. Everything from the oil tanks, to toxic waste from the x-ray film making process, to the water treatment sediment basins.
I mainly cleaned out the primary and secondary waste water settlement tanks. We literally got down in the poop tank with a fire hose, squeegees, and the 6" hose from the vacuum truck to suck all of the #### up. You better believe #### was everywhere. All over my boots. Pants, shirt..
Nastiest job i've ever (will ever) had and it was only $10/hr.

Job 1) Worked at a Pete's. Sucked but it taught me about what goes on behind the scenes at those places. Also how to quit. I quit on Monday or Tuesday cause I didn't want to work that Friday (football game or something. I think homecoming). Came in that Friday before the game and my ex boss took my order.
Job Two) Worked for an 18wheeler transportation company. Cleaned out and repainted the trailers. Spent most of the time messing around and smoking cigarettes. Small business and was paid in CA$H. Noice.
Job III) Subway sandwhich artist. Worked for 2 whole weeks. Got my first paycheck and while there told my 17 year old supervisor I wasn't coming in that afternoon, that I had to work on my newspaper article for school (I didn't). She was on the floor putting together one of those 6Foot party subs and needed help. lutz.

first job I ever had lasted 8 years....
Apr 16, 2019, 12:53 PM
|
|
1. At 13 got a summer job driving a tractor, mowing on golf course. Did full time every summer and part-time year round through high school and until junior year of college. Did everything you could possibly do golf course maintenance-wise over the years. Could have run one myself by the time I was 18. Most fun I ever had. Sometimes I wish I would have stayed in that business.
2. Also umpired Little League baseball late afternoon/night in the summers from age 16-19 or so. Stamina - that was my middle name back then. 2 days straight of that (7am-4pm golf work, 5pm-9pm umpiring) would kill me now.
3. For a couple years during college, worked Christmas Break at the local town plant filling in for people on vacation. Packing boxes and strapping down product for transport. 3am-3pm shifts, 7 days a week minus Christmas Day/NYD. Worked assoff. Made enough money in 4 weeks to pay for a semester at Clemson.
Graduated with ZERO college debt.
For me graduating college was a relief, because work slacked off.

1. Chick-fil-A in high school, probably 6 months. Worked in the kitchen, and wasn't good at it.
2. Summer jobs for two different summers at Blue Cross, just temp/intern stuff. Putting stuff in alphabetical order or something.
3. 2 summer internships during college at current employer, then full-time job after graduating, which was 12 years ago.

Job 1 - (1980-81) 10th/11th grade - worked 30hrs/week at a convenience store (during the school year and summer) for minimum wage. I constantly throw this in my HS aged kids faces who claim they don't have time to work and go to school...
Job 2 - (1982/summer) - 50hrs/week in a Cotton Mill doing whatever those sadistic bastiges told me to do. This job was key to keeping me in college - because I knew I didn't want to do something like that for the rest of my life...
Job 3 - (1983/summer) - 72hrs/week construction at a mall. Made real good money (lots of overtime pay) - was able to pay for my Sophomore year at Clemson because of this job...

McDonalds: #### pickles... everywhere! Got fired for kicking a hole in the drive through wall.
Movie theatre: Got fired for not showing up to work for a few days (it was spring break and the schedule came out while I was at the beach.)
HVAC: One summer I helped commercial HVAC. They got me high one day on top of a plant releasing R12 into the atmosphere. Made me sit inside an almost enclosed area to remove some bolts. They sat back and laughed. Good times!!

First three....hmmmm
Apr 16, 2019, 1:14 PM

This would all be in the 80s so
Job1: Chick-Fil-A, for the scholly money as mentioned earlier in the week. Hot older girl showed me her b00bies in the walk-in. First I'd ever seen not in a magazine.
Job2: Built a golf course, sod and irrigation crew. Holy Jesus was that hard work, all day in the GA summer sun. I'd drink gallons of water, go to wizz before bed and it'd ### near be Clemson orange.
Job3: Short haul truck driving in the carpet bidness. Truck drivers are some of the most uncolorful people...EVER.
Saved money, went to CU, spent it on beer.

Job 1 - high school, delivery for Aiken Drug Company. Used to even let us deliver narcotics back in those days. Doubt that is the case now. Tore the shid out of that delivery truck, a Ford Ranger stripped down to nothing. Probably the reason I hate those trucks now. Made minimum wage, I'm sure, but can't remember what it was.
Job 2 - My white privilege allowed me to not have another job until I was out of Clemson. First real job was working for Smith and Radigan CPA firm in Atlanta, GA. During busy season, spent most of our time in Greenville doing financial audits of Section 8 apartment units. Was on per diem so spent many a late night in downtown Greenville whooping it up on the company dime.
Job 3 - moved to Greenville and took a job with Elliot and Davis, CPA firm. Biggest bunch of arrogant pricks I've ever met. Hated it. This job convinced me that I did not want to become a CPA.

Job 1: Worked at a small, family owned O-ring distributer in the warehouse, pulling orders and filling them, then shipping them. $4.15 or $4.25 was the minimum wage back then. Not sure which it was, but that's what I made.
Job 2: Left there to work at a Candy Express in the Columbiana Mall. Store manager was 21, Asst Manager was 18, and they were the two oldest in the store. How that company stayed in business with a bunch of teenagers, is beyond me. Made a whopping $4.50 per hour.
Job 3: Left the candy store to work at the Wal-Mart on Harbison Blvd in Irmo. Not the current location, but the original one down the road from it. Was making an impressive $4.75 an hour but several of my friends worked there, so it was worth it. Started out pushing carts and loading TV's etc into peoples cars, but got moved into the garden center and enjoyed that a lot more.

#1 - press box page and locker room steward for the illustrious Spartanburg Phillies at Beautiful Duncan Park home of Good Time Baseball. $13 per game and all the hotdogs and pizza I could eat. A great gig for a 14 year old in 1975.
#2 - bag boy at Community Cash for $2.30 per hour
#3 - worked at the ice house across the road from the Beacon “I’m not the iceman, I’m the iceman’s son, but I’ll keep you cool ‘til the iceman comes.” $3.00 per hour.
All were great jobs.

Job 1: 10-16, drove a Farmall 140 in the tobacco fields during the summer, ran the tractor into a ditch my first day on the job, but I was 10 years old ¯\_(?)_/¯. Paid straight cash, homie...
Job 2: worked in the fireworks stores at South of the Border during the summers of 93 and 94, when home from Clemson - had some fun, smoked weed on top of the Sombrero, stole some fireworks - minimum wage.
Jobs 3a/3b: worked at Walmart in Anderson during Fall 94, awful company to work for, quit - went to work as a temp at Bosch plant in Anderson, Spring 95 and Spring 96, worked with some good people. Forget the pay on those, but probably low.
Was going to join the Navy after Clemson, and be Goose in an F-14, but flunked the physical (infected pilonidal cyst) - I feel like I probably would have washed out anyway, and been stuck cleaning an aircraft carrier or something. Ended going to work at a CPA firm in 1996, been here ever since, the end....

Job 1 - 1996-2000: Mowed lawns and did landscaping around my neighborhood and adjacent neighborhoods. Worked for myself. $25/lawn. Job 2 - 1997-1998: lifeguard for a country club. Quit because Job 1 made way more money. Around $9-10 an hour. Job 3 - 1999-2003: General service mechanic at Goodyear. $11.50/hr when I quit.

1) KFC (Summer of 2005): Worst jahb I ever had. Groce AF. $6.25 and hour, I believe. Wouldn't get out of there until 1 a.m. some nights, which during high school and going into your junior year SUCKED.
2) Park Ranger (Summer and weekends of 2007 and 2008): $9.25 an hour. I thought that was GOOD money at 18 years old. Also, my GF worked there and I got to make secchs on her in the woods on several occasions.
3) Restaurant(s) (College): Waited tables and all that jazz. The restaurant business attracts the seediest of people. It was this crowd that enabled me to try cocaine for the first time

First Job: 15 yr old bus boy at Hite's Resteraunt in Lexington. Didn't care for it all that much.
Second Job: Went off to be an inventory clerk/all purpose gopher at Kitty's Hallmark in Lexington. Mr. Mogan always had some lovely ladies working there to keep me busy staring at.
Third Job: Subway@ I-20/378 interchange. Stayed there till about a month prior to heading off to MCRD, which begat my 4th job.

If we are counting our parents forcing us to start our own business cutting all the neighbors’ yards:
1) Small mom & pop type sports memorabilia store for $4.25/hr at 15 years old
2) Summer job between semesters building refrigeration units
3) Summer job between semesters building beer kegs & loading them onto 18 wheelers. (Job sucked big bawlz)

1. Delivering the afternoon Cootlumbia Record on bike. The later part of the route was through the black section of town. I would get in hoops games here and be late with the last part of the route. 2. L.D. Holmes Peach shed in Johnston. What a great social scene in the Summer. The HS basketball coach and JV football coach was the manager and would whip our a$$es with a paddle, usually for throwing peaches at trains. Worked here 4 summers loading peaches into hydrocooled trucks. 3. Harcombe. Loved to come in the morning and get the fresh donuts.

Thinking back...1) At about five yrs old, maybe four?? picked up a bushel of acorns for Uncle Richard's hogs. Cheap bastid paid me a nickel! Quit on the spot!
2) Raked leaves for Grandma. She paid a quarter...back when quarters were silver, yeah!
3) Age 9 - 12 cleaned many loads of brick my Dad had dumped in back yard. Age 12 - 14 laid aforementioned brick around house as a driveway. Probably paid about .50/ hr. Such was my tortured youth.
