Some thoughts after watching last night game

Some thoughts after watching the game last night and reviewing more of it this morning. Albeit, I may be speaking like a complete idiot on these points
1. Defense is as advertised. However, the offense will need to help them out. Hate to see fatigue and the injuries by too much time on the field. I always felt confident with BV on the sideline, but like what I see out of Wes so far.
2. WR corp needs to step it up. I do not see the deep threat, sure-handed receiver we are accustomed to at Clemson. Someone needs to be that guy. Like what I saw from Antonio Williams with his speed and intent.
3. Shipley...needs more touches
4. OL was not as advertised last night . Maybe this was an off game?? Given how the coaches were praising the OL, I was surprised that we had no push. These guys lineup every day in practice against our DL. If the coaches like what they see, it was not evident last night. They did not help the running game at all.
5. DJ may struggle to remain the starting QB, primarily because of the OL. DJ has not shown the ability to stretch the field vertically or by rolling out. This would open up the field and would help to keep the defense on its heels. It would open up the run. If he is a pocket passer, the OL just isn't helping him here. WR drops are not helping either. I saw lots of check downs and late throws by DJ. I do not know if this is indecisiveness, lack of confidence or sole on the WRs. I could not get a grasp for that on the TV.
6. Cade: see above. His ability to roll out of the pocket (and his speed) helps to overcome a weak OL. Sharp and decisive with the ball. Not trying to crown him starter, but if OL, WR and DJ cannot get it ironed out, a better team will force the change in a starting QB. Hoping they can correct it.

All are reasonable points IMO. I would point out this is the first game of the season so we would typically see a few glitches which will be corrected as we move forward through the season.

To me, it reads like your analysis is spot on.
Maybe I shouldn't be disappointed in the OL, given it was Putnam's first game at Center (he did play better as the game progressed, so there's real optimism for short-term improvement at Center).
W.Parks did OK at RG, but he was so good at RT last year I'd love to see him get moved back to RT immediately.
B.Miller will undoubtedly be a very fine player some day, but he's not ready to play RT yet. He got beat like a baby seal last night. Get him snaps at a second stringer when the game is not in a critical situation.
The right side of the OL needs re-figuring. Maybe Bryn Tucker can fill the RG spot; maybe Collin Sadler should get a look at RG.

Agree with that. He's going to be good but kinda like Tate last year early on. Haven't rewatched but to the original post, did we run any 22 or 13 formations like we used down the stretch last year.
As for DJ, he made some good throws but as was mentioned last night his pocket awareness when he'd slide too far back or too much forward makes it look like oline busts but really on QB. He still doesn't seem to be able to process the game quick enough.
Yes, some of his throws were better than last year simply because they were still in the same zip code but still doesn't mean it was a good enough pass.
Cade deserves some 1st team reps. Would like to see KB/Trevor scenario where Cade comes in on 3rd possession etc.

And don't be fooled by special teams. We didn't just get magically better with those two blocked punts. Yes it was a good rush up the middle. But that GT punter was taking 3.5 to 4 steps before dropping the ball to punt. I've never seen a punter take that many steps when it wasn't the rollout rugby style. Most straight up punts are 1.5 to 2 steps.
GT punter was holding way too long/taking too long to kick and that's what got him blocked.

I would add that Streeter needs to realize that the zone read doesn't work so well with a clumsy QB and a struggling interior line. Ran that way too much. We moved the ball when we started to attack the middle of the field more with slant passes. WRs are a train-wreck.
The second team OL came in during Cade's drive and got some push (maybe because they were fresh?). Salder needs to play more.

I was already in a funk last night, but after I watched a bit of the 3rd quarter I walked away and terminated my subscription to YouTube television (which was a great recommendation by several folks on here).

Decent analysis. Only thing I'd point out is McFadden played lights out at LT--he had a great game and I'm pretty sure he'll grade out highest on the O Line.
