Alabama Opponents' Defenses by the rankings

Oct 31, 2018, 10:34 AM

Alabama's unstoppable offense has faced these defenses:

Texas A&M - Currently ranked 30th in the S&P+ Adjusted Defense Category
Missouri - Currently ranked 51st in the S&P+ Adjusted Defense Category

After that, you have to jump to the BOTTOM 3rd of the college football FBS defensive statistics category to find their next opponent (Arkansas) at rank 84. Not to mention, the least scored points for Alabama's season have come against the 2 opponents highlighted above.

Alabama's unstoppable offense will face these defenses:

LSU - Currently ranked 8th in the S&P+ Adjusted Defense Category
Mississippi St - Currently ranked 7th in the S&P+ Adjusted Defense Category
Auburn - Currently ranked 5th in the S&P+ Adjusted Defense Category

The season has a way of working itself out and I for one am excited to see the meltdown when Alabama struggles to score against the best, BY FAR, defenses they will face all season over the next 4 weeks. If they don't, then everyone is in trouble.

I agree that they have played the lower tier of Defensive teams. However I do not think they will really struggle to score on the remainder of these teams before the playoffs.

Agreed. I think we get just a tad too caught up in the "who have you played" debate.

Just to use an extreme example, say in some alternative universe, the LA Rams played in the MAC or Sun Belt Conference.

They'd go undefeated, but their resume wouln't look "great".

However, of course they'd still be the best team in the entire country.

Not saying that Alabama is *that* good. Just saying that even though their resume doesn't look incredible on paper, they're clearly an oustanding football team that deserves their ranking. They also won the natty last year, so I won't knock them until there's a real reason to.

We, as in fans, and they, as in the media, tend to fall into the trap of the "Eye Test" too quickly. Statistics are the only things that don't lie. I tend to agree with you that they should win the rest of their games handily, but the real need for me is to see their offense struggle a bit.

They've also played some very poor offenses so far this year and the defense is ranked like #16. They gave up 31 to Arkansas. of course the offenses they face the rest of the year aren't any better than they faced already. So don't look for their team to lose a game. and before anyone starts to talk about them playing a lot of backups late. They only played 46 total players in a blowout win against a bad Tennessee team. Whereas Dabo played 84 players against a ranked NC State team on the same weekend. Depth will be an issue for Bama the next few weeks and it's going to be interesting how that works our for them. If LSU can put up 200 on the ground against Bama they can keep their defense off the field against Bama's offense. Bama is giving up about 113 yards on the ground so far this season. That's almost twice as many as they normally do. 3 of the next 4 games will be against teams that actually run the ball well just don't score a lot of points.

If Bama's offense struggles, the media will call it an epic/typical SEC defensive battle. No disparaging remarks about the offenses.
