The mere fact there's constant arguments

Over NIL, portals, revenue sharing, etc., only underscores why Dabo was slow to answer the bell. He wanted clarification on how all would shake out. Remember, he's a businessman...has the experience...coached because he loves it, but would be successful in whatever venture he chose. Seriously, strip football from the lives of many head coaches and what would they do? Oh, and portal-wise...105 man roster...sure seems like the portal has come to him with the understanding he sought. Patience pays in the long run.

Motivation vs $$...that'll be the metric in evaluating for many athletes. Look at the pros who can't handle money...and a high school recruit will be equipped for all that will be expected of him/her? With the 'posse' that is shadowing their every move. Agents introducing themselves while they're in 10th grade? Family living vicariously through their child's/sibling's/relative's potential?

The athletes that come from a solid family structure with a sense of core values will be the ones who can survive the tumult in the coming years...maybe. And the first time an athlete 'underperforms' for the wrong people, there will be consequences. That will be a very sad day...and many will be left wondering how such was allowed to ever happen. Day late...dollars short.

I agree 100% with your assessment. Everyone has to get their opinion out there.

Their opinion may be right or wrong, but the need feel involved is there. I’ve tried harder to not criticize opinions I don’t agree with.

Calling someone an idiot etc is unnecessary. I’m probably wrong more than I’m right, but I try my best to not be ugly to others.

Wait, how good of a real estate/insurance agent was Dabo? Could he make $11 Mil a year?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He was in development but that was 20 years ago.

Don't act like he was a cheezy realtor or some used car salesman.

He probably couldn't make 11 mil/yr back then but right now? Maybe, if the interest rates dropped a bit.

What, twenty years ago? He did well enough to step down in salary to return to coaching. He seems pretty savvy at investing in himself. :)

Another twist to your ‘motivation vs $$’ equation.

Dabo was more motivated by a job that he loved, and sacrificed $$ to invest in what motivated him. Not that Dabo excluded $$ from the equation. Maybe deep down his strongest job desire would have been selling his paintings of birds, but was grounded enough to pursue a practical career (coaching) that gave him the means to pay the bills.

You are such an idiot.

I'm just kidding, brother. I wish I could hold my tongue as well as you. You sir have great virtue in your position.

Dabo has a lot of reasons for not bidding on players and tampering.

I know one is that he doesn't want the kids who they and their families have put on an auction block. Lack of concern for anything but money show poor ethics. That's not saying that Clemson shouldn't pay players a true value for talent and hard work.

Dabo doesn't cheat by tampering so we will never be in those bidding wars which happen before a player announces he is entering the portal. That's what he was saying when he said some of these guys know where they are going before they announce for the portal.

We want student athletes not just athletes. That culls out a lot of players. That means the the players have to do acceptable classwork along with work in sports practices.

We all saw this system become unsustainable and some could see from its onset what it was. Dabo was the leader in this understanding, enough so that he refused to participate.

If we give consideration to our (Clemson's) position on these listed reasons to continue as we have then our football season was astounding!

Our player aren't making a mass exodus. They don't want to be part of a team that's here today and gone tomorrow. It says a lot about us as the Clemson Nation.

most of the loophole "tampering" is by player agents and not the schools anyway.

and if you're brining in "ethics" then every player that "negotiated" a new deal was complicit w/ the "tampering" as well.........it goes both ways and the players are not innocent either.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I am satisfied that many of our players are tampered with.

Obviously they are innocent. While it's possible agents are contacting players looking for someone who wants to move that doesn't have an agent I'd suggest that most agents who contact players are working for schools or players.

What you're describing is akin to a cold call. Old school knocking on doors.

You are absolutely correct: Players who are actively seeking a place to go before they enter the portal are not desirable to Dabo. If their agent contacts Dabo's agent the answer is 'NO,' unless they are in the portal.

I don't agree so much with your assessment/statement that any player negotiating a deal is guilty of anything, if that's what you said. I think it's only right to discuss your rate with the boss. I'd bet a dollar to a donut that Dabo sits down at least once a year with all our paid athletes and discusses their progress and pay.

Having two national titles buys him a lot of runway.

A less accomplished HC probably would not enjoy the latitude he's been given to comprehend the new landscape and implement new strategies for the program in a way that will both benefit the athletes and sustain a winning tradition.

I bet it's pretty complicated and complex. And who better to figure it out than Dabo Swinney?
