What performance will be better/worse than expected vs. UGA?

Here's mine:
Better than expected: Clemson's run defense. Everyone expects UGA to run roughshod over Clemson's defense based on the poor defensive stats last year and UGA's stud OL and RBs. However, I think Venables' 4-3 man scheme is ideal against power pro-set offenses like UGA's. Clemson has no All-Americans on the front 7, but they do have talent, depth, and experience. UGA will get their yards on the ground, but Clemson will also get some stops.
Worse than expected: Hate to say it but I do think Clemson will have some costly first game mistakes such as turnovers, penalties, and special team blunders. What will it be? A costly defensive penalty on a 3 and out? A big UGA punt return? A Clemson TD called back on an illegal formation? A muffed punt catch? I cringe to even mention these, but it is a first game. UGA will make their mistakes too, but I fear Clemson will make more.

I think the progress of the installation of Venables' defense will be much greater than expected. I'm relating it to our last year's offense compared to the previous year.
I think the linebackers's unit will be our biggest delight though our secondary will be the best we've had in a long, long time. I'll admit, that bar isn't very high.

Curious as to why you think Clemson will make more mistakes than Georgia? Georgia has never struck me as a very disciplined team, where I think the opposite about Clemson. Crowd noise may cause a Clemson player to get a little overly fired up and have a mental lapse here or there, but it should also have the same impact on some of Georgia's young players.

Not to mention that Murray is the king of the dumb turnover in big-time, pressure situations. He's good for at least one bone-headed interception, if not more.

I like Coach Mark but he's predictable. Seems when he calls for 'the bomb,' AM focuses on the receiver long enough for the defense to see what he's doing. That being said AM is growing and shouldn't have many of those mistakes this year.
I'd guess he'll throw deep twice or three time this game. His best pass is to a TE coming across the middle. His checkoff man is usually a receiver or back in the flat.
I hope anybody aspiring to play in our secondary or LB position have watched enough game film over the summer to know a heck of a lot more than I've gleaned from the few UGA games I've recorded and watch.

I am mainly thinking about special team woes...

We've had a ton of them through the years, but other problems have taken priority. Last year was no exception.
Now that we've solidified the offense and defense, I'd like to see more coaching on the special teams.

Agree that 1st game mistakes will be made by both teams

and simply due to the fact that we'll likely run 80-90 plays, we're due to make more of them. However, that also means that we're more capable of overcoming them. Our speed creates extra possessions, which creates more opportunities to cancel out mistakes. The key will be limiting those mistakes. If we end up even on turnovers/big sp. teams plays, we win the game.
