Our defense has been lights out.
Our offense has literally been gifting the other team points and yet we are still top 10 in most every statistical category.
We wreaked havoc on FSU yesterday. Our offense continues to make critical errors at critical points in the game. We are also abysmal on special teams.

The timid defenseive playcalling at the end of the first half was bad. Prevent defense allowed them to drive the entire field.

It's the same defense venables almost always used. Had we been aggressive and they hit a big play the narrative would be he should have had us in prevent. Can't do anything right with this clueless crowd

We’ve lost both of our games against power 5 opponents this year, losing by an average of 14 points.
We are also 1-4 in our last 5 games against power 5 opponents.
We are underachieving big time.

You suck. We looked great yesterday. Clean up turnovers and kicks and we win that game. Cade looked great. 8th ranked defense, 21st ranked offense. Compare that to the last 2 seasons. You
will see we are vastly improved. We have the toughest schedule we’ve had in years. With a new starting qb. We will improve as the season goes on. I fully expect to go 9-3 or 10-2. Next year will be a really special season imo

FSU well below their season avg offense. They dropped from 33rd on offense down to 47th. So we played great and held Portal U down, only 17 true offensive points (and yes I’m aware OT counts). Again, NOBODY can replace BV, but the defense hasn’t been a liability at all.
The offense needs to pull their weight, yesterday! Obviously these catastrophes and misses in scoring position are literally killing us.
We did everything we we’re supposed to do to win this game, with the exception of two obvious things:
We lost this game because of a MONUMENTAL fumble 6 and a missed kick.
I don’t agree with trying to create a storybook ending though, when Dabo decided to trot the walk-on kicker out there for the biggest kick of his entire life. I don’t care who won in practice, the Rudy kicker wasnt ready for that stage. Just my opinion on that.

This defense may rank high statistically but most of that is due to CS and FAU. They played decent against Duke but they broke after the Mafah fumble scoop and score by Duke.
Against FSU they were fairly good but that was at home and when we needed it most… we gave it up at the end of the 1st half and in OT.
As the season progresses that statistical ranking will begin to drop bc we are now playing bend don’t break defense.
Under BV we were an attacking defense and we dictated to the offense. Now we allow the offense to dictate to us which is why you see the 3 down DL Goodwin is deploying.
We’re on our heels too much. Obviously Goodwin is no BV and that’s ok few are… but it doesn’t take a defensive prodigy to design blitzes. All Goodwin has to do is pull the mountains of tape from the past 10 years to see what an aggressive attacking defense should look like.

Our total defense ranking is unchanged from FAU to FSU. 8th. And since the FSU had overtime and gave up a statistically significant 25 in that period it actually is overweighted versus the other three games. So, your premise is incorrect.

I can accept some of the things you are saying but here is the bottom line for me, regardless of what the statistics show. Out of the last 5 games we've played, we've lost to 3 teams that we used to beat like a drum and had significant winning streaks against all three (SC, Duke, FSU).
To some of your points, the kind of stats we are putting up should not result in 3 losses out of the last 5 games. And this makes it hard to accept any other points of view about how well we are playing, regardless of how well-intentioned they are.

I think the problem people have with Wes is that our defense just hammers the daylights out of teams for long stretches with blitzes and pressure packages and then he suddenly goes to 3-man line and soft zone defense and the opponent immediately pile up yardage at 10 yards a clip and get back into games. Seems to me that is his only mistake and I honestly don't have a clue as to why he does it. I would like to see him pressure an opponent for an entire game, every play, and just see what happens.
